WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The United States removed nearly two tons of radiological and nuclear materials from Iraq last month, the Energy Department said.

The material could have potentially been used to make a "radiological dispersal device" -- a so-called dirty bomb -- "or diverted to support a nuclear weapons program," the department said Tuesday.

Radiological sources for medical, agricultural or industrial purposes were not removed, the department said. Less-sensitive materials were repackaged and remained in Iraq.

The departments of Energy and Defense removed "1.77 metric tons of low-enriched uranium and roughly 1,000 highly radioactive sources from the former Iraq nuclear research facility," Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham said Tuesday.

Either way, "they" keep saying Saddam didn't have anything. Ignoring the fact that Scud missiles, which the whole world knew he had and visibly used even while we were making tracks toward Baghdad over a year ago, was classified as "WMD" by the lamestream media.

Good comment. I just borrowed it and got it on the Hugh Hewitt show. He said that the WASH POST reported it today.

So let's predict the spin. It's not a big deal because;

1) It was pre 1991 nuclear materials.
2) UNMOVIC knew about it and labeled it.
3) It's Bush's October surprise
4) It's a lie. Didn't you see Michael Moore's movie "Farfegnugen 9-11"? it explain it all.

Scud's with a 985kg(2167lb) throw weight worth of that stuff could make a real mess of Israel or Saudia.

So far, every chemical weapon or other possible WMD found in Iraq has been explained away as meaningless by the media, or some BS justification is given as to why it isn't WMD. I thought we could start a fun list of spin that we'll see from the media if they cover this story any further.

Well they did fail to mention that the medical grade radioactive stuff was left in Iraq.
