I read an article in the Economist a good while back that claimed manufacturing employment has been declining (world-wide) for 30+ years, much like the earlier decline in agricultural employment.

We have a huge agricultural subsidy slush fund because of efforts to stem that decline in agricultural employment.
Now, you're saying that we're going to start having industrial subsidies. American industry will get government subsidies to produce Vegas, Gremlins, and Pintos.
