Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) announces she is voting against the nomination of J. Leon Holmes to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas: In her remarks on the floor of the U.S. Senate, which are continuing as I type this, she also condemned Second Circuit Judge Guido Calabresi for his recent remarks about President Bush. It will be her first vote against any of President Bush's judicial nominees.

Abortion should be EVERY conservative politician's #1 issue. Until we end crimes against humanity, all other issues are meaningless.
I wrote Kay an e-mail from her site informing her that she will not be getting my vote if she does not confirm this judge, I hope others will do the same.

>>>"KBH votes conservative about 95% of the time. We lose her on abortion and women in the military issues. "
Where does she stand on illegal immigration? Did you forget that one? As I recall she won't take a stand to stop illegal immigration.
She's a liberal country-club conservative. Perhaps a "conservative liberal," or a "liberal conservative." The right name has to be some kind of oxymoron. She often votes for corporate welfare but not for individual rights. She's a lot better than a left wing wacko, but not a conservative to brag about.
Other than that, she seems like a nice lady.
I can't see too much of a difference compared to Gov. Rick Perry. I'm not supporting Perry nor calling him a conservative, but the only big negative weighing down voters on Rick Perry is the issue of how to change the funding for public schools. No one has an acceptable solution for that problem -- as no one wants to cut spending or stop the illegals from overflowing the school systems.
Hoppy
Kerry and Edwards aren't there, which cancels out Bailey and Spectre. The two Democrats (Democrats Pryor and Lincoln of Arkansas) have endorsed and strongly support Holmes.
I don't know how this vote is going to go, or if we should even care. Bush did nominate him, but he could have done it to accomodate the two Democrat Arkansas senators, or please pro-lifers. But it is just a district judgeship.
I'm of the opinion this coming to a vote today signals someone has done some backroom dealing to get it over and done with.
I finally got through to her office and the aide told me he would let me talk to another of her top aides... well, all I got was a voice message.....
I told her my disapproval of her voting against Holmes and that she has ailanited her base... (which by the way, I do not consider myself far right wing) but I will NEVER vote for her again. She adopted a child over the past few years and she of all people should be AGAINST abortion and be more proactive in her stance for the unborn.
Great sign! I will try later.
My sentiments exactly. How an adopting mom can be for killing the unborn is beyond me.
Hatch on now, defending Holmes.
(Snicker.)
Watching it on CSPAN2 right now.
Tried to call and phone line is tied up. Sent e-mail but that was probably a waste of time.
What a traitor, well she has lost me if this is her attitude.
how is it looking? Any other defectors? Any common sense Dems?
No telling yet. Hatch is ranting right now.
Bump! I hope all Texas freepers are calling her right now!!!
Democrat Mark Pryor (Arkansas) is coming out in favor of him.
No I didn't forget anything. MOST of those good conservatives in Congress are ducking that one, so please talk about issues where it matters, and things that come to a vote.
Snowe and Collins WERE expressing 'concern' about Holmes' nomination a few months ago. Haven't heard anything since. And of course Snarlin' Arlen abstained or something in committee.
Sad to say you will not have too many people to vote for, even in Texas. I'm as pro life as any, but it is not the ONLY issue.
They called her name but I can't hear any of their responses.
this will be a telling vote for Specter. All the Toomey supporters (like myself) watch and wait.
