"The July 4th weekend was a disaster for Kerry. Pushed on the issue of abortion in heavily Catholic midwest towns - Kerry was coming up with quotes like: "I don't like abortion, I believe life does begin at conception. But I can't take my Catholic belief, my article of faith, and legislate it on a Protestant or a Jew or an athiest...who does not share it. We have seperation of Church and State in the United States of America."
You can condemn me for this. My personal beliefs should not be lumped together with my politics. If my constituency was pro-life but as an individual I was pro-choice, I would represent my constituency based on what they wanted me to do in Washington. If they didn't want me in office, they could vote me out.
Problem here is Kerry castigated the church on these issues as well as ran on a pro-choice platform and now is trying to flip flop(gee who would have thought?)
And if your constituency was pro lynching but you weren't would you still feel the same compunction to go along with the majority? Sorry but that's not what leadership is all about. You take a stand and then suffer the consequences.
