You related a personal experience and expressed an opinion and then someone tries to lecture you on rules is the way I see it.

I'm not a Mormon. I dated one in high school and found out what kooks they are.

I've now read one of your posts and I now feel qualified to state categorically that you and everyone in your family and every member of your church are kooks.

polygamy and expels anyone who practices or promotes the belief

Read again, I did not say anything about your post. I said the foundation of their church is bull. Show me the tablets and show them to the world. Then the location of where they were found and more proof then what has been given.

Not to mention the part after my personal experience and opinion expression where I make the point that the newspaper seems to be the ones on the attack.

I made thee point of not going after mormons because there are probably a large contingent here in FR, that are good people. One of my lawyers is mormon and he packs heat lest he have a problem and needs to defend more than just his beliefs. On the other hand, I'd bet that we don't have any flaming democrats, or muslim extremists, signed up as solid members of FR.

Absolutely. I've done a bit of reading on Mormon fundamentalists and some of it will turn your stomach. Girls being forced to "marry" their step-grandfather, or an uncle. Family trees are so convoluted.

BTW, the reason so many are on welfare is because subsequent "wives" are obviously not recognized by the state and therefore the plural wives and their children are considered single mothers and are eligible for assistance. How else can a man support 5 or 6 wives, each with numerous children, unless he leeches off the taxpayers?

Dude, every religion is based on faith. If you want concrete evidence to back up your belief, you simply aren't going to get it. Heck, you don't even have concrete evidence that the sun is still shining, the light we see is six minutes old by the time it reaches us.

So relax, live and let live, and have faith.

Maybe some of you need to stop and take a deep breath. I didn't post this to bash Mormons. I posted it to point out how odd it was that a major metropolitan newspaper would devote so much space on their front page to an article that was bashing a religious community at large. The only reason I added the kook comment (see post #1) was to illustrate that I can not be a Mormon and still think it's wrong to openly bash them.

Lawrence vs. Texas (2003):

"Liberty protects the person from unwarranted government intrusions into a dwelling or other private places. In our tradition the State is not omnipresent in the home. And there are other spheres of our lives and existence, outside the home, where the State should not be a dominant presence. Freedom extends beyond spatial bounds. Liberty presumes an autonomy of self that includes freedom of thought, belief, expression, and certain intimate conduct..."

Planned Parenthood vs. Casey (1992):

"“At the heart of liberty is the right to define one’s own concept of existence, of the universe, and of the mystery of human life."

I'd say the polygamists have pretty much got it made, wouldn't you?

Colorado City, the polygamist fundamentalist town in the Arizona Strip, hhas been around for years. Suddenly, Arizona's tiny minority of liberal do-gooders, after having spent years promoting every kind of sex imaginable, has decided that Polygamy Is Evil. Not a week goes by without another scarehead article in the Arizona Repugnant 'proving' that polygamy causes the heartbreak of psoriasis. Naturally, the solution they want is Laws Passed Now.

So far, every instance of actual evil behavior this anvil chorus has been able to come up with, such as welfare fraud and arranged marriage of underage girls, is already illegal in Arizona. Why is the same crowd that promotes gay marrriage leading this crusade against polygamy?

"I've always defended the polygamists," Bistline said. "They're a very moral people. But now, since he has taken over, there is more corruption, more abuse of women."

What a contradiction this statement represents! The abuse of women is intrinsic to Polygamy.

Just a FYI to all of you. There are many, many, sects to the Mormon church. The biggest sect, largely populate Salt Lake City, actually do NOT support or believe in polygamy. The Mormons who DO support polygamy are a very small population of that faith. But dont make the mistake of lumping all the Mormons together. I was born and raised LDS but am not actively involved in the church anymore. The LDS church that I grew up in did not believe or support modern day polygamy. There are many "off shoot" groups that claim to be Mormon and practice polygamy.

Nope. That is not possible.

However, one person's personal faith is as valid as anyone elses.

I didn't attack anyone.

No, you attacked the entire Mormon religion based upon your experience with one ex-girlfriend.

We read a little about this sect when Elizabeth Smart was kidnapped. It was hinted at in the press that the Smarts suspected that Elizabeth may have been kidnapped by a member of this sect.
