If you have read "Michael Moore is a Big Fat Stupid White Man," then you too are probably hopping mad to learn that Moore should not have been eligible for an Oscar (in the Documentary category) for Bowling for Columbine.
Rule 12 of the AMPAS Academy Award Rules read, in relevant part:
1. An eligible documentary film is defined as a theatrically released non-fiction motion picture dealing creatively with cultural, artistic, historical, social, scientific, economic or other subjects. It may be photographed in actual occurrence, or may employ partial re-enactment, stock footage, stills, animation, stop-motion or other techniques, as long as the emphasis is on fact and not on fiction.
As many of you have, no doubt, learned by now, Bowling for Columbine is almost purely a work of fiction and does not fit within Rule 12.
Just a few examples of how Michael Moore created an almost pure work of fiction:
He lies about the timeline of Heston's visits to to Columbine and to Mt. Morris
He claims that Heston's "cold, dead hands" speech occurred in Columbine, whereas it was actually given a year later in North Carolina
He edits Heston's words together to make him appear to say things that he never said
He edited his interview with Heston to include things that were not part of the interview -- e.g., it shows Moore calling after Heston as Heston leaves the interview, while a close study of the footage reveals that Moore's comments, allegedly to Heston, were filmed at another time (Heston never heard them)
He lies about the connection between the Klan and the NRA -- there is none
He lies in the beginning of the film about walking out of the bank with a gun, which is not possible, at the time, because Moore is a resident of NY and could not possibly have gotten a gun from the bank -- that is, unless he somehow, and convincingly, LIED about his state of residence
He edited a Bush/Quayle '88 campaign ad and then passes-off the edited version as the original
He lies about the Lockheed Martin plant near Columbine -- it produced rockets for launching satellites, not missiles
Etc.
In sum, Moore's work was a work of fiction, not eligible for an award as a Documentary. Moore's Oscar was issued in violation of Rule 12, and for these reasons, Moore's Oscar must be revoked.

Demand that they revoke Moore's Oscar for Bowling. Sure, nothing may come of it, but, at the very least, they need to know that America knows that Moore's award was ill-gotten!

Not only that, it's useless. He'll get nominated for F911, too. It really doesn't matter to them.
While I applaud your efforts, there is no way the Academy will revoke Moore's Oscar. We all know the Rats and malignant narcissists in Hollyweird are world class rule breakers.
Suffice to say, the Oscars will be interesting. I say we have a campaign and flood Hollywood with the "deceits" in the movie IF it does get nominated.
True, but it doesn't hurt to call and give them a hard time; they might think twice about even thinking about givin F911 a nod if they know that people actually know the rules.
Got an address to mail to? If we can hard mail them letters and packages, that would tend to get their attention. We have lots of time before next year to get this accomplished.

He'll also probably win for F911 as well. A good bit of propaganda trumps filmaking integrity every time for the Academy.

He may win for F911. The voting will take place in early 2005. The Hollywood Left will simmer so much, they'll be looking for some way to lash out at Bush from their own impotence. I would expect a concerted effort to vote for something else instead.

I think a more productive approach might to be to ask the public to think about why Hezbollah and the Chinese Communists are so excited about this screed.
Of course the answer is, for those who care to look, because it does HARM to America.
There will be no opposition to refute the charges made by Moore in these countries.

Actually we should be pushing for the FEC to prohibit Moore from Advertising the DVD release in any way shape or form as a violation of CFR.
We should also pressure the FEC to recognize any retailer display or distribution as the equal of a financial donation to a 527 type political organization in violation of CFR.
This is an infomercial like ALL of moores Big lies.
It should have been rated NC-17 as a Nazi propaganda film.
If you want to discredit Michael Moore, stick to disseminating these two quotes of his:
"The Iraqis who have risen up against the occupation are not "insurgents" or "terrorists" or "The Enemy." They are the REVOLUTION, the Minutemen, and their numbers will grow -- and they will win.
"Americans are the dumbest people on the planet."
