for gosh sake man, it's an action figure...
i never played with a doll...
well, when gi joe had r&r, barbie's dream house was only a jeep ride away.
teeman
Give the guns back! Give the guns back!
Don't you think that it really is the "honoring local military personnel" part that they are opposing? If they were giving away flowers with the name of a soldier attached these jerks would still be protesting.
For Lawd's sake, its a DOLL!!! I don't know what the libs are worked up about. Its not like they're giving away guns here. Sheesh...
Exactly.
John Varone, a Vietnam veteran and president of the Twin Cities chapter of Veterans for Peace. ``For gosh sakes, the last place we need to promote war is at our national pastime.''
First of all, shame on any so called Veteran for leaping from a doll wearing a uniform similar to US Forces is in anyway an advocation of war. To assume that is to assume all soldiers are a symbol of war, therefore this alledged Veteran is really anti military. I bet Veterans For Peace is a branch from Kerry's Veterans Against the War, which was a quasi viet cong communist group.
Besides anyone who isn't a total idiot (like John Varone) knows that the Joe's don't fight in any wars, GI Joe is the code of America's daring highly trained Special Mission force, its purpose, to defeat Cobra, a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world.
Yo Joe!
I suppose that the promoters could get some Ken and Barbie dolls, tear their clothing, dip them in mud, and offer them out as "unwashed hippie protestor" dolls for those who ask.
Besides being communists, there were a number of non-veterans in "Veterans Against The War".
Heard the Twins had a couple of thousand calls, emails etc, in support of the giveaway. Last I heard the people doing the objecting don't really care that much because they didn't have a demonstration planned as of this afternoon.
GO ROYALS!
Hey, you give him back!!
Major Matt Mason could eat GI Joe for breakfast.
No kidding! No one has to take the dolls if they don't want to. I hope they pass them out and they are a big hit.
"It's not a credible way to honor those who've suffered the inhumanity of war,'' said Phil Steger, executive director of Friends for a Non-Violent World, a St. Paul-based group with about 4,000 members in Minnesota...."
"I think the Twins are way off base with this idea,'' said John Varone, a Vietnam veteran and president of the Twin Cities chapter of Veterans for Peace. ``For gosh sakes, the last place we need to promote war is at our national pastime... [blah-blah ]"
Please. Stop! How infantile & DISTURBED. These idiots INSULT our Troops
LOL wonderful.....thanks.....he he he he
What does it take to be a member, a home phone? 4000 members are obviously struggling to find a social structure that they'll join anything that makes them feel important with any stupid issue they can create.
H. H. Munro ("Saki") jounalist and author, enlisted, at the age of 44, as a private soldier on the outbreak of World War I. He was killed 13 November 1916 at Beumont-Hamel.
His sister recalled his chief traits as his whimsicality, sense of humour, love of animals, pride at heing Highland, and indifference to money.
His last words were "Put out that bloody cigarette".
(And as a measure on the world has declined over the last century, I now find it necessary to add that Munro was not personally opposed to smoking)
I hope they give the so-called peace protestors the only response that this idea deserves: "NUTS!"
Response from the Twins after I emailed them
..............
Dear *****,
On behalf of the entire Minnesota Twins organization, thank you for your
email supporting our Armed Forces Appreciation Night and corresponding G.I.
Joe action figure giveaway! We've been overwhelmed with positive notes
about our planned tribute to the real G.I. Joes and G.I. Janes who are
willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to protect and defend this country.
The Twins are proud of the young men and women of the Armed Services and our
giveaway will go ahead as planned. Below is the tribute that appears on the
G.I. Joe package:
"Minnesota Twins Armed Services Appreciation Day - Monday, July 5, 2004
This G.I. Joe action figure is a tribute to the brave men and women serving
the United States in the U.S. Armed Services. Thousands of Minnesotans are
supporting our nation as active or reserve members of the Army, Navy, Air
Force, Marines and National Guard. Many are civilian soldiers with families
and careers who may be deployed on a moment's notice to trouble spots around
the globe. Members of the National Guard are also available, at the
direction of the Governor, to serve Minnesotans during natural disasters and
other emergencies.
The Minnesota Twins salute these courageous men and women, past and present,
who put their lives on the line to defend our country and assist us in times
of need."
Your comments and support are greatly appreciated.
Warm regards,
Patrick Klinger
