Arnold Schwarzenegger won't be running for a second term in California.
That's the word from radio hosts Phillip Matier and Andrew Ross of San Francisco's KGO.
The hosts reported in the San Francisco Chronicle that word on Arnold's plans comes from California state Attorney General Bill Lockyer.
Bear in mind that Lockyer is a Democrat, no friend of Arnold, and is already running for governor.
At a fundraiser last week in the city Tony Bennett left his heart, Lockyer was quoted as saying, "as my very best supporters, I want you to know something very important. ... Don't repeat this, but Arnold Schwarzenegger is not going to run again, and the race is only mine to lose."
The hosts then stated Lockyer made the following three statements as evidence of his claim:
1. "Arnold has personally told me on several occasions that he is not going to run again,"
2. "Maria Shriver has told NBC that she will be back in two years," and
3. "Arnold has signed some movie contracts which will require him to work full time after 2006."
Schwarzenegger's office laughed off the claim, "Bill is either nursing a fantasy or Oliver Stone has sold him a conspiracy theory," spokesman Rob Stutzman said.
Please note: The Terminator is very unpredictable. Remember how he told everyone he was not running in the recall until the last moment - and even surprised his mentor, former L.A. mayor Richard Riordan.
With so many wolves still hoping to devour Schwarzenegger, it's quite possible he may be giving out a false signal.
Why would RINOld want four more years of practically no income?
I would be more surprised if he did run for reelection.
Who in their right mind, who could make tens of millions of dollars a year making movies, want four years of chump change??? For what? All the abuse? All the appreciation? He will never be POUS. So why bother... He got to play governor for a couple of years, now he can go back to LA and make some real money.
And before any of the naysayers try to pull the wool over your eyes regarding McClintock's chance of being elected.
Here is the last poll by USA Today/CNN/GALLUP Poll prior to the election.
"If the choice were between Cruz Bustamante, the Democrat and Tom McClintock, the Republican, who would you be more likely to vote for: Cruz Bustamante or Tom McClintock?"
September 25-27
Registered Voters
McClintock 49%
Bustamante 42%
Probable Voters
McClintock 56%
Bustamante 37%
So don't let anyone try and tell you McClintock "couldn't win"
Uhh, he couldn't win. Now stop looking at my huge bald spot and expanding waistline. That's all man baby!
Seriously, I completely agree with you.
If McClintock had the fortune of a dweeb like Al Checchi, he would have been in like Flynn.
I don't think that there was any way that the Democrats could have possibly won either of those questions on the recall ballot.
Thanks for posting that poll...
What on earth makes you think a "true convservative" as opposed to a RINO, would win in this state?
Well, the media is already using him as I thought they would; pushing to have him be a prime time speaker at the convention, while asking him pointed questions about his liberal socialism disagreeing with the "right wing of his party" in order to use to attempt to destroy the social conservatives in the GOP. They already succeeded at getting him a prime time gig, who wants to bet whether or not they grill him during it about every moral issue brought up at the convention?
Not run again in 08? I'll start praying its true tonight!
BTW Schwartzenegger WON. Pass it on.
What makes you think a nonconservative Republican can win? In 2002, the 2 most conservative statewide candidates came the closest. the ``moderate" ones flopped. Of course, with the recall and Schwarzenegger all rules are off. Of course, the moderates didn't even want or support the recall in the first place.
Some of us would rather have Arnold not sign an illegals' license bill, than laugh. Because you hate Arnold, you apparently would rather he DID sign one, so that you can have your laugh.
The 2000 electoral map tells a large story about this state. I'm flanked by two conservative house members who wouldn't have a prayer in the urban population centers.
For a Rep to win statewide office, he must peel votes from Democrats. Reagan beat Brown for several reasons, among them, he portrayed Brown as soft on crime. Then we've had Wilson and Deukmejian. Each of these men were Reps and each served two full terms.
Then we have Gray Davis who learned a few lessons as a political hack. Davis never failed to reinforce his support of the death penalty and worked hard to curry the favor of labor unions and the law enforcement unions. By and large he maintained their loyalty. Dianne Feinstein employs this as well, which is why she keeps getting re-elected. Barbara Boxer should be easy pickings, but there's two problems with her. She maintains an extremely low-profile here in CA. She capitalizes on public indifference. The Reps keep putting up attack candidates against her and they end up looking foolish.
Schwarzennegger got an extraordinary stroke of luck. Davis was such a boorish incompetent, he didn't have to be beat on policy. Schwarzenegger could beat him on the perception of competence and action vs. corruption.
If he plays his cards right, Schwarzenegger will easily win re-election. He won't do it by being the darling of the right. He'll win because Californians have the perception that he is taking care of business and leaving them alone.
Now, now... You'll upset the boot lickers and kool-aid drinkers with talk that that.
Don't you know he's not the Annointed One of the elitist country clubbers?
Glad to see that poll! How ANYONE would want to vote for that little creep Bustamante is beyond me. The only answer is that he has a Spanish surname, period.
Love that movie, but ya know, I actually think Jamie Lee Curtis' strip "show" was drawn out and just not very sexy.
She can (could) be very sexy, btw.
You do hate Arnold, and you lie about not hating him, regularly.
The only thing we can agree on, in terms of the California governor's office, is that if Arnold isn't running for re-election, we need to get a solid base of support under McClintock ASAP (if McClintock IS running).
Arnold may realize he is in over his head, politics isn't fun like he thought it would be, and making movies is much more rewarding.
Dealing with the gaffes of his senile buddy Riordan can't be pleasant either.
Oh come on! Have a sense of humor! It's not suppose to be 'The Godfather', it's suppose to be a slick action flick with one liners and cool action sequences.
Specialist Pat Tillman comes to mind.
