Guess What Country This Is?
Can you name this country?
709,000 REGULAR (ACTIVE DUTY) PERSONNEL.
293,000 RESERVE TROOPS.
EIGHT STANDING ARMY DIVISIONS.
20 AIR FORCE AND NAVY AIR WINGS WITH 2,000 COMBAT AIRCRAFT.
232 STRATEGIC BOMBERS.
19 STRATEGIC BALLISTIC MISSILE SUBMARINES WITH 3,114 NUCLEAR WARHEADS ON 232 MISSILES.
500 ICBMs WITH 1,950 WARHEADS.
FOUR AIRCRAFT CARRIERS AND 121 SURFACE COMBAT SHIPS AND SUBMARINES PLUS ALL THE SUPPORT BASES, SHIPYARDS,AND LOGISTICAL ASSETS NEEDED TO SUSTAIN SUCH A NAVAL FORCE.
IS THIS COUNTRY:
RUSSIA? NO
CHINA? NO
GREAT BRITAIN? NO
FRANCE? WRONG AGAIN
MUST BE USA? STILL WRONG
GIVE UP?
THESE ARE THE AMERICAN MILITARY FORCES THAT WERE ELIMINATED DURING THE ADMINISTRATION OF BILL CLINTON AND AL GORE.
IMAGINE WHAT A JOHN KERRY ADMINISTRATION WOULD LOOK LIKE CONSIDERING HIS 20 YEAR VOTING RECORD AGAINST DEFENSE APPROPRIATIONS STARTING WITH HIS OPPOSITION TO RONALD REAGAN'S SDI INITIATIVE [STAR WARS] WHICH LED TO THE DEMISE OF THE SOVIET UNION.
Pretty thought-provoking when you state it like that.
From: The Facts About Military Readiness (Sept. 2000 -- how Clinton slashed the military)
The size of the U.S. military has been cut drastically in the past decade. Between 1992 and 2000, the Clinton Administration cut national defense by more than half a million personnel and $50 billion in inflation-adjusted dollars. The Army alone has lost four active divisions and two Reserve divisions. The number of total active personnel in the Air Force has decreased by nearly 30 percent. In the Navy, the total number of ships has decreased from around 393 ships in the fleet in 1992 to 316 today. Even the Marines have dropped 22,000 personnel.
Please plan to post this again during the work week. Most people are too busy watching fireworks displays, and getting drunk at cookouts to read something important like this on the 4th of July. People really need to see this article. Thank you.

Good post, Mike. Welcome to FReeperland.
BTTT
Thanks for the welcome!
Pretty obvious as to why we were unprepared for 9-11, when you factor in the intelligence cuts, as well. Just shows how well President Bush has been able to do, given what he's had to work with.

Bookmarked this one, it's going to come in handy during the run up to the elections.
Thought provoking the first time it was posted to FR. 3-4 years ago and less thought provoking each time since.
Must be a long line of people waiting to piss in your Wheaties.
Besides, it's that old, tired Clinton--yesterday's news.
And this guy is new on FR, and may not have seen it until now. He may even have been inspired to start learning more about recent history after being introduced to FR.
If this is an old yawner to you, why not just click out of the thread and onto another where you can make a constructive comment instead of discouraging a newby. Or better yet, give him a link to an old thread about it.
Well it's the first time I'VE seen it, and it's both interesting and useful. But maybe I don't have 24 hours a day, seven days a week to scan and document everything that's ever posted on Free Republic. Maybe it's because I have a LIFE. Look into getting one for yourself.
Yikes!
What? No tag? Even somebody with a life can have a tag.
Yeah. I've been mentioning these dup threads some lately as we get into the real election season. The bandwidth is going to be swamped and if we could at least not post Drudge headlines a dozen times we might manage a little better. We could get more mileage out of the search function and old threads could be bumped so FReepers who drop in to scan now and then wouldn't miss so much excellent commentary.
Sorry if it's been posted 'repeatedly'. Thought it might be interesting to folks who hadn't seen it before, such as myself.
