Idle curiousity here... did you guys meet on FR, or did you know each other already?

It's a long (and very romantic) story, but, yes---we're a product of FR. We met in February 2002, at a post- World Economic Forum counter-FReep gathering at a bar in New York (I was not at that freep, but that's another long story and immaterial to this one). I was engaged to someone else at the time, and wasn't looking at all the nice DC boys in attendance as date material, but I did meet sauropod that evening, and he actually has our first conversation on videotape.

Fast-forward about seven months, when I dumped my (liberal) fiance and was about to lose computer access for about a month. sauropod just happened to freepmail me about a fundraiser for a land-rights issue, right when I was about to sign off my fiance's computer for the last time, and I mentioned to 'Pod that I was breaking off an engagement and would be incommunicado for a while...and after a decent interval of about *two weeks*, he proceeded to thoroughly woo me via freepmail. Freepmail led to phone calls, phone calls led to a first date on Nov. 9, 2002, first date led to the realization that we were made for one another.

The rest is history. And we are so glad we're not doing the long-distance thing anymore, and are man and wife today.

Marriage is great. I highly recommend it. All freepers who can do so, should pair up as soon as possible.

That is excellent! Congratulations to you both!

I myself am happily married to a decent, conservative man who enjoys going to the Portland, Oregon Starbucks with his Bush/Cheney 2004 bumper sticker just to annoy liberals. It doesn't get better than that!

Congratulations to both of you! Thanks for sharing your story, hellinahandcart. It's much better to break off an engagement than a marriage. I've made and broken two engagements before I married my fine wife of 19 years.

Don't think of marriage as being shackled in ball and chains; think of it as a corporate merger. It takes a while to learn to think as one, but it's fun learning. Go with God's blessing.

f.s.
