LONDON (Reuters) - The U.S. general who was in charge of Baghdad's notorious Abu Ghraib prison said on Saturday she had met an Israeli interrogator in Iraq, a claim Israel denied but which was likely to irritate many in the Arab world.
Brigadier-General Janis Karpinski, who was responsible for military police guarding all Iraqi jails at the time prisoners were abused by U.S. troops there, told the BBC she met the Israeli at a Baghdad interrogation center.
"He was clearly from the Middle East and he said: 'Well, I do some of the interrogation here and of course I speak Arabic, but I'm not an Arab. I'm from Israel'," she said.

It looks like she has chosen to take the country down with her.
Add another charge to her court martial?
That's the problem with having women in command. When you fail and it's time to do the honorable thing like fall on your sword, there's no sword.....if you get my drift.
She is going to get US troops killed with this crap.
It's only a matter of time before she also claims he sexually harassed her, ala Claudia Kennedy, a/k/a Hillary's General.
Do you think she would understand the message.
Even admiral Brodua understood.
She must be a friend of the hack man.
A woman who has seemingly tried to raise the reputation of women in the military but who is doing the opposite.
Hillary Clinton is probably advising her on legal strategy.
"'Well, I do some of the interrogation here and of course I speak Arabic, but I'm not an Arab. I'm from Israel'"
That statement is a little too "perfect" for my ears. Hmm...
Karpinski--"My initial reaction was to laugh because I thought maybe he was joking, and I realized he was serious,"
A U.S. military spokesman in Washington said he had no information and Israel denied it.
"There is no basis or support in the reports regarding the alleged involvement of Israeli interrogators in interrogating prisoners or captives in Iraq."
"An Israeli security source told Reuters: "Israel was not and is not involved in the interrogation of anyone in Iraq."
"A U.S. military spokesman in Washington said he had no information and Israel denied it."
So I ask, just who was this person!!!?
She didn't do anything wrong - it was the JOOOOOOS!
Another Haliburton/JOOOOOOS consiracy theory in the works for the DUmmies.
Unless she's clinically stupid (and I for one am willing to entertain that possibility) she has to know that such an assertion has the very real potential to bring harm to the troops. This is nothing more than petty venal lashing out usually reserved for the bitterly ineffectual.
That such a worthless flack would have been placed in a position of command is as damning an indictment of what was done to the military as I have yet seen.
M. Moore doesn't hold a candle to Brigadier-General Janis Karpinski. What is wrong with the military that this loose cannon is permitted to run around spewing the garbage that is most damning and which will cost American military lives. Is the government so afraid of alienating the lesbian vote that it cannot shut up this woman. She has just "proven" every conspiracy theory the Muslims have come up with regarding America and Bush.
Agreed. They should add treason to her court martial.
Never mind the fact that this Karpinski woman is stupid and vile, and constantly trying to deflect responsibility. That's a given.
But can someone explain to me why this is even a news story? I would assume we employ numerous Arabic translators for interrogations. Presumably, most are originally from Middle Eastern countries. Perhaps one was from Israel. So what? How is this any more of a story than someone involved in interrogations saying "I'm from Bahrain", or "I'm from Kuwait"?
How does the fact that one person said he's from Israel somehow imply Israeli government or military involvement or control of interrogations?
This is just rampant anti-Israel, anti-Jew sentiment, typical of the BBC and Reuters. How do they sleep at night?
When your sick, twisted gig is up, blame the Jews! That never seems to fail!
She looks familiar....ohh yeah thats right...she was on the 1976 Olympic East Germany women's shot put team....
I think she is also involved in BALCO too.
Seriously though, she only got her star because she is a she.....political promotions do us again....didnt we learn from the Civil frikin War
The news agencies are likely just as concerned to report Israeli denials as they are to report the charges. This can be valuable to Israel if for no other reason than that Seymour Hersh was at great pains to draw attention to the fact that, among the three interrogators Taguba had in his sights, in his first report about Abu Ghraib abuses, was a John Israel. On the Charlie Rose program, Hersh even went so far as to (wink, wink) imply, in connection with his first New Yorker article, that there was Mossad engagement in the interrogations.
