The Boston Globe, October 18, 1990
The Washington Post Style section recently anointed him the capital's 9th most eligible bachelor, offering this thumbnail sketch: "Heartthrob of the Left. Known for unabashed ego and killer office hours; dates start at midnight. A tad forgetful - his divorce became final four years after his separation, a fact that reportedly came as a surprise to some of his frequent companions."
Gossip columns have linked Kerry to actresses Morgan Fairchild and Cornelia Guest, as well as Patti Davis, the daughter of President Reagan. Kerry dismisses the gossip, saying he would "wish being father to fact." But Sen. Kennedy, who was No. 2 on the Post's most eligible list, and who socializes with Kerry, said, "He can leave his work at the office, which is pretty healthy."
The Boston Globe, March 8, 1994
One night in 1980, Julia Thorne put her children to bed and then sat on the edge of her own bed to contemplate suicide. She was exhausted - overwhelmed by despair, self-loathing and pain. She wanted to lie down. Curl up. Sleep forever.
On the outside, her life at 36 seemed blessed - two bright and healthy young daughters, a handsome and successful husband (the future US Sen. John Kerry), a sprawling house in a suburb north of Boston and no financial worries. But on the inside, Thorne's mind was ravaged by conflicting thoughts, and her body was riddled by panic attacks. She felt herself plunging deeper and deeper into a vortex of fear, hopelessness, self-hate, loneliness. And unexplained paralysis - she could no longer walk without crutches.
The Boston Globe, June 9, 1995
Seven weeks before Sen. John F. Kerry married wealthy heiress Teresa Heinz last month, his ex-wife, Julia Thorne, filed suit seeking an increase in support payments, asserting that the senator's income and resources "have substantially increased" since she previously sought an increase in 1991
The suit, filed in Norfolk Probate Court, seeks an increase in support and maintenance payments for the couple's two children. The complaint is Thorne's second request for added benefits since their 1988 divorce.
Intentionally or not - both parties thought the filing had been impounded - the complaint will require Kerry to provide details of his financial relationship with his new wife. "It's fair game under the law to come back and ask for a modification, and the language is not unique to this case," said Norman Jacobs, a divorce lawyer. "But the inference is there." It's clear to me that somebody wants to get Heinz involved."
The Boston Herald, June 15, 1995 Thursday
Now, some say the Kerry-Heinz marriage was made in ambition-land. She can bankroll his political dreams while satisfying her own yen to add yet another home to her stable: the Nantucket getaway, the Georgetown townhouse, the 90-acre farm outside Pittsburgh, the Sun Valley retreat, the newlywed's just-purchased $ 2 million lovenest overlooking Louisburg Square.
The Boston Globe, May 24, 1996
Scandalmongers will find Thorne's book light on Kerry-ana. "Politics became my husband's life," she writes. "I tried to be happy for him, but after fourteen years as a political wife, I associated politics only with anger, fear, and loneliness. . . . I had to be on guard, carefully monitoring my behavior and appearance in an effort to avoid 'bad press,' gossip or the loss of votes. I felt as if I were not just supporting my husband but selling my soul for the sake of his career. I wanted out."
Washingtonian July, 1996
[B]ack then, [Julia] was also paralyzed by depression. She was so overwhelmed with despair and exhaustion that she planned suicide. She was saved by therapy, determination, antidepressants, and a change of lifestyle--which, ultimately, included divorce. She kept most of her problems secret. ... "It's not politically acceptable to have any kind of mental illness," she points out. ... Long before her 14 years as "spouse of '-- years she associates only with "anger, fear, and loneliness"--Julia Thorne had strong Washington ties. ... Lunching one day in 1971 at the Italian Embassy with a group of elegant Washington women, she told the assemblage, at length and with enthusiasm, about her husband's planned march on Washington as a leader of Vietnam Veterans Against the War. The demonstrators planned to hurl their Purple Hearts and Bronze and Silver Stars over the White House fence to protest America's continued presence in Vietnam. As she regaled the group, one cavedweller tried to nudge her into silence -- but to no avail. As it turned out, the pretty blond stating at her from the next chair was Shelley Buchanan, Nixon speechwriter Pat Buchanan's bride. ... "When John won the primaries for the lieutenant governorship of Massachusetts, we went to do our publicity photographs with Kitty and Mike Dukakis. Kitty had just come out of a rehab center, and I had just asked John for a separation -- and here we were, living these enormous lies. We had to live those lies for the whole campaign. I call that "shadow work.'"
The Patriot Ledger (Quincy, MA) October 21, 1996 Monday
Kerry accepted discount and free housing from developers and a lobbying executive when he was going through [his] divorce. ... The facts surrounding Kerry's housing are as follows:
From February to June 1985, Kerry stayed at the South End condo, owned by Wesley Finch, his longtime fund-raiser and an owner of federally subsidized housing. He paid Finch $ 2,250 for his stay, far below what it would cost to lease a similar unit.
From late 1987 to September 1988, Kerry stayed at a Beacon Street apartment owned by developer Edward W. Callan. Kerry paid about $ 250 a month rent.
During February, March and possibly April of 1989, Kerry stayed free at friend Robert Farmer's home. Farmer is a senior vice president of the lobbying firm Cassidy and Associates, although he is not registered personally as a lobbyist.
The Bulletin's Frontrunner April 10, 1997, Thursday
US Sen. John Kerry." Julia Thorne, Kerry's ex-wife, said "she received what she considers a coldly-worded letter in November from a church official notifying her that the senator was seeking an annulment of their 12-year marriage, which ended in 1984," the Globe said. Thorne, unlike Sheila Rauch Kennedy, is not contesting the annulment request, but she "does not hold back her contempt for the way the Roman Catholic Church takes a marriage off the books," the Globe said. Thorne, "a published author on issues of emotional experience," said her treatment by the church was "disrespectful" to her, "aloof to any emotional issues," and devoid of any sense of the humanity of what this means to me and my children," Thorne said.
Hope you enjoyed these little tidbits :)
I wonder what the Kerry children think about the treatment of their mother. I wonder what Sen. Heinz's children think about how their family fortune is used to support liberal causes.
Are not the Kerry kids out campaigning for him?
Maybe he's hoping he can drive VP Hillary to suicide before she Fosters him?
The real-estate favors are legit targets, though. These need to be brought into the light more. Remember, it wasn't Gennifer Flowers that brought down Clinton, it was Whitewater.
You mean he's actually a cold-hearted SOB and a narcissist to boot, who treated his first wife like feces?
Interesting article. This part bothers me.
"said her treatment by the church was "disrespectful" to her, "aloof to any emotional issues,"
I hear this all the time. I am intimately familiar with the annulment process of the Church and they kill themselves to be extremely respectful, confidential, considerate and empathetic to all parties. This part of what she said is bitterness towards Kerry speaking.. not true of the Church's tribulal process.
JFnK's ex-brother-in-law, who was a college roommate, is working for his campaign, and thinks Kerry is a great guy. Wonder if hi talks to his sister very much?
Have you noticed; his kids are not out campaigning like Teresa's (the Heinz) kids are?
O.K. They opened Mr. Ryan's and Jerri's divorce file. Let's open up JFK's and see what all sorts of good stuff we'll find.
Can anyone guess if the B/C '04 Campaign is going to exploit all the anti-war photos, pro-communits photos, Teresa's giving to Radical Islamic groups, the fact that JFK almost drove his first wife to suicide, etc. etc. before election day on November 2? The GOP has got to take off the kid gloves and go for the juglar.
It's pretty obvious why the media has ignored the new biography of Kerry - " John F Kerry,The Complete Biography By The Boston Globe Reporters Who Know Him Best. "
Kerry and questionable financial deals seem to go hand in hand. Notice the absolute silence on the part of the "misleadia " to investigate the stench coming from Kerry's finances.
Here are 2 examples.
Pages 199-202 detail Kerry's offshore and probably illegal tax shelter schemes in the Cayman Islands.
Perhaps Julia knew the truth about Kerry's shares in the Peabody Commodities Trading Corp and Sytel Traders, Ltd -both registered in the Cayman Islands.
In 1983, Kerry received $225,000 as his share of some legal work from his former law partner and girlfriend, Roanne Stagow.
In Dec 1983, Kerry claims that he invested between $25,000 and $30,000 in " a scheme using offshore accounts." Page 200 ibid.
This was a scheme known as a " straddle "- which was the buying and selling of forward contracts through companies in the Cayman Islands.
It was a tax shelter involving paper transactions.
Kerry claimed in April of 84, that he cancelled the deal on the advice of his accountants because they questioned it's legitimacy.
Then Kerry went into his usual I didn't know, nobody told me flip flop.
His campaign claimed that he had not violated any law and everything he had done was by the book and perfectly legal. We must not forget that Kerry was a lawyer, when he was signing the paperwork and reading the fine print .
He was also running for the Senate and in desperate need of money.
Here's the money quote :
However " records obtained by the Boston Globe revealed that much went undisclosed about the complex scheme." Page 201 ibid.
" On Dec 13,1983 Kerry pledged 2,470 shares he held in a company called Peabody Commodities Trading Corporation as collateral for a $ 238,527 promissory note signed the same day by Sytel Traders, Ltd."
Both companies were registered in the Cayman's.
" Kerry has never disclosed a stake in Peabody Commodities or an indebtedness to Sytel Traders." Page 202 ibid.
Kerry did not dispute the authenticity of the documents obtained by the Boston Globe.
But, he dismissed the paperwork as " meaningless."
He also claimed ignorance about the fact that the companies were offshore tax shelters in the Cayman Islands.
But, the Boston Globe found the pledge agreement with Kerry's signature and in the first line it stated that Sytel Traders was organized in the Caymans.
The IRS soon clamped down on offshore tax shelters and some of the investors in Sytel were forced to pay steep penalties.
Why hasn't anyone in the media investigated Kerry and his off shore tax shelter ?
Did Kerry get the $ 238,000 from Sytel Traders in 1983 ?
Did he pay it back ?
Did he report it to the IRS ?
Or perhaps Julia shed more light on Kerry's eyebrow raising real estate deals- Pages 236-246 ibid.
Kerry has been involved in questionable real estate deals that have a whiff of Whitewater.
Here's an interesting tidbit, which might make Bob Graham of Florida a frontrunner in the Veepstakes .
Kerry was always grubbing for money.
His finances " got much better in 1988," when he sold his Capitol Hill townhouse to Florida Senator Bob Graham .
"Even after taking into account the expensive renovations done by Kerry, it was a huge profit after only three years of ownership." Page 243 ibid.
I think Kerry's new nickname will have to be Corrupt Kerry.
Isn't it odd, though, that Patti Davis may have been "in bed" with Kerry?
I was notified by a letter that my former husband had filed (some time before that) for an Annulment from me (as he had never even been a Catholic until he met and moved in with a Catholic woman with two small children, and she wished to marry, I guess the Catholic Church had no problem with that). I was given some papers to sign and to agree or sign to disagree. I chose to sign that I disagree and was granted a "hearing" with the local Pubah. I inquired as to the "grounds" given for my husband's Annulment and was told that he had never (in his own mind) intended to marry me and had never (again in his own mind) intended to have children. Those were all the grounds that the Church considered.
I asked what any of that had to do with the fact that I had been legally married for 16 years and had two children by this man (in a Presbyterian Church, by the way.) The Pubah said that my former husband was now a Catholic and no longer felt that his marriage to me was legitmate (a fact that must be claimed so that a divorced Catholic may be remarried.)
The Pubah also stated to me that it did not matter whether or notI agreed to the Annulment, it would be granted and that I was merely being given a notice of the Church's intention to do so. I responded with, "Why then did you have a place for my signature or another place in which to disagree?" I was told that "it was merely a formality."
So much for "caring and consideration by the Catholic Church.
Too bad he left the work at the office last year and hasn't taken part in his job since.
What a crock of sh**.
Gosh, the Catholic Church doesn't recognize marriages in a Presbyterian Church, if one party later divorces and converts to Catholocism. Another crock of sh**.

Didn't Dave Durenberger get into hot water over this kind of thing? (Perhaps my memory is faulty and it was another pubbie senator, but Durenberger rings a bell.) Of course, we all know the Iron Law of Political Scandals ....
My more serious question, however, is why she was asking for support payments to begin with. I thought she was supposed to be wealthy and Gigolo John was living off her. I mean, pols pay themselves a comfortable upper middle class income, but if the lady was worth the reported $300 million, what gives?
