No disrespect to your naval sentiments but "as for me and my home we will serve the Lord" first.

I was also taught to count the day a man died if it was before 2400. Happy Fourth.

Just to post the lastest directive.........

Returning the Flag of the United States to Full-Staff
By the President of the United States of America
A Proclamation

By the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, and in honor and tribute to the memory of Ronald Reagan, it is hereby ordered that the flag of the United States shall be displayed at full-staff at the White House and on all buildings, grounds, and Naval vessels of the United States beginning July 3, 2004. I also direct that beginning on that same date, the representatives of the United States in foreign countries shall make similar arrangements for the display of the flag at full-staff over their Embassies, Legations, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and stations.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this second day of July, in the year of our Lord two thousand four, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and twenty-eighth.

GEORGE BUSH

I'm going to fly ours proudly at half staff as well. Nice choice of words "Half Staff". Old argument about Half mast applying to Ships, and half staff applying to shore, but it probably really doesn't matter, I just like that term.

That's interesting that President Bush called off the half-staff display two days early. I would've done that on the 4th, not the 3rd though.

As for displaying a bow or a streamer on the flag, I hope more people know this for future displays. I have a neighbor who routinely complains to me that those are "illegal and disrespectful" on the flag. "regardless of what the American Legion told you." He didn't have his flag out at all this last month, which makes me wonder...

FOX News has just said that the President has ordered that the Flag be raised to full staff on July 4th.

This ol' Marine prefers half mast, but to avoid corrections on line I usually use "half staff." :-)

Well, now that I read from the White House web site that we are to put the flag back to it's full staff, I, to be sure, drove past our local post office and said "sure enough" because theirs was back on high, and went home and put it back to its full glory.

I also, when my old flag has become weathered, I will burn it, which is one way in which to dispose of your "retired flag"
