WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Vice President Dick Durbin? Read on.

Here's what we know this morning about Kerry's would-be running mate:

Informed Democratic sources tell the Grind that the previously unmentioned VP candidate Kerry is seriously considering -- as recently as Tuesday -- is Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois. During a lengthy conversation that his boss had with Kerry this week, one source said, "Wesley Clark's name never came up once, but [Kerry] mentioned his interest in Dick Durbin several times. He made it clear that Durbin is very much on his list."

Durbin said in May that he wasn't on any list, and he has spoken highly of John Edwards and Clark as good veep material. The senator recently told a local newspaper that he'd have some reservations about the new life the job would force upon him. "I really value getting in a cab at the airport or taking the [Chicago subway]. And that would change. So I'd have to think about that," he told the Chicago Daily Herald.

The sources also confirm the talk that Sen. Joe Biden is on Kerry's short list. Biden, who speaks regularly with Kerry and is a close confidant, has previously said he has not been formally vetted by the campaign.

Dick Durbin?

I think it is very telling that in May he didn't want to be considered for VP because "I really value getting in a cab at the airport or taking the [Chicago subway]. And that would change.".

At least he has his priorites in line. LOL

Kerry is in an unenviable position now. He basically promised Union heads that Gephardt would be his choice. The polls want Edwards. Bill Clinton wanted Vilchek (sp. Hillary wants to sabotage the whole thing by throwing around her name. CNN was touting Bill Clinton. The media still wants McCain.

The guy is in hot water with any pick.

So many (boring, unknown, controversial, insignificant, etc) options...And only one position available.

What's a candidate to do.

John Kerry's VP search is beginning to look like Al Gore's search for an Alpha Male image. Just the name "Dick Durbin" sounds like this is JF'nK's "Earth Tones" phase.

I'm starting to wonder if Kerry would choose Dean.. It solves his Nader problem..and Dean's been rehabilitated to some extent after the "scream"..and it's the 2nd spot..it also stops the Hilalry boomlet...could the Dean/Nader debate be an audition for Howie?

Don't worry Senator, the cabs and subway will still be operating on Nov. 3.

Kerry/Kennedy (Kennedy ought to have life insurance) or Kerry/Clinton (Kerry ought to have life insurance). Queen Hillary is waiting in the wings.

I think Tom Harkin (Communist_NE)would make a great running mate for Skerry.

Durbin will cement the Frank Kissling, Andy Greeley, Gary Wills, Richard McBrien, Roger Mahony, et al, apostate, heretic, CINO vote.

I think Kerry camp is floating names out to try to add a tiny bit of shock value when Edwards is finally picked.

Kerry/Kennedy

Then Cheney would get Massachusetts's EVs for VP since President and VP cannot be from the same state.

Dickie (email address) Durbin, charter member of the the Daley mob, who has never met a solider he liked.

Yeah pick him, then the daley mob can appoint another member to go along with ommaba the fatwa bearing muslim.

Yeah we could get booby rush or maybe klintoon boy emmanual.

Not only screw up the country but drive the PRI further over the edge.

Only if auditions come after you've been chosen to play the part. The debate is on 7/9. The buzz is that Kerry will choose before then.

That's not an option, IMHO...it's hard to grasp..but Dean..loook,he captured the passion and the rage of a large part of the Dem part..he's the opposite of Kerry in temperment..he'd be a great campaigner...and the "scream" has played itself out..
