Red-Light Camera Busts Cheating Wife
HAWTHORNE, Calif. -- A red light camera in Southern California caught one woman in the act -- of cheating.
Hawthorne Officer Mark Escalante said a local resident is challenging his $341 red-light violation ticket.
The ticket was mailed to the registered owner of the car. But the car owner says the camera's automatic videotape shows he wasn't driving -- it was his wife's lover behind the wheel. The jilted husband is getting a divorce.
But the new red-light traffic cameras snagged more than 1,400 motorists last month in Hawthorne, leading to a slew of complaints.
There's been a threefold increase in tickets since the red-light camera were installed this spring. Cameras snapped pictures that resulted in 1,414 tickets issued in June.
Some motorists outraged over getting the tickets storm into the police station to dispute the violations, not knowing the photos come accompanied by videotape.
I wonder what the light source is....visible light or IR...We need a carry-around detector (not for us) for mass-marketing..."Don't leave the love nest w/o it"
I thought the San Diego fiasco resulting in throwing out thousands of camera-based tickets had put a damper on automated enforcement in California. Guess not...
Anyone who has received such a ticket should have a look at CVC 21455.5 through .7 - there's a laundry list of requirements before a city can use camera enforcement, including minimum yellow times, public hearings, etc.
Q? #1: Please let me know how I might cross-examine the red-light cams.... or even the video recorder... should I choose to refute the charges brought by these mechanical accusers??
Q? #2: Please let me know why the citizens of California seem to lead the way in ceding our individual freedoms and constitutional rights??
The use of these automated traffic-ticket factories [also spelled "municipal cash registers"] have been found unconstitutional in several states on the grounds that the accused is unable to confront or cross-examine the accuser -- as no officer or constable was present at the time of the alleged offense.
Regards...
I would agree, but the response that you get in Maryland is that, technically, you aren't being charged with a moving violation. What they ARE charging you with is akin to a parking ticket, which as we know goes to the registered owner of the vehicle. I think that that answer is BS, but I don't think that you'd get a judge to rule in your favor.
hehehe...
Do you get points on your license if you happen to be the owner of the car in the picture?
If its done as it is here in NC, the city only keeps less than 1/2 the fine. The majority of it is given to the company that owns, operates and maintains the cameras.
Talk about insult to injury...!
"Baby You Can Drive My Car"
I don't think that's necessarily so. My daughter rented a car in Southern California; her husband was driving and got his picture taken. They sent the ticket to my daughter, who sent it back declaring she was not the driver. They did, however, ask her who the driver was. She told them and they sent the ticket to her husband who paid it.
Never do something wrong, when your doing something wrong.
she gave him oops-bumps?
She shouldn't have been driving on the cheating side of town.
I doubt that particular camera issues 1400 tickets a month. That's probably the total for the whole city.

Turn left at the old Hotel
I know this boulevard much too well
It hasn't changed since I been gone
Oh, this used to be my way home
They paved the road thru the neighborhood
I guess the county finally fixed good
It was gettin rough
Someone finally complained eneogh
Fight the tears back with a smile
Stop and look for a little while
Oh it's plain to see
The only thing missing is me
That's my house & that's my car
That's my dog in my back yard
There's the window to the room
Where she lays her pretty head
I planted that tree out by the fence
Not long after we moved in
That's my kids and that's my wife
Whose that man, runnin my life
If I pulled in would it cause a seen
There not really expectin me
Those kid's have been thru hell
I hear they adjusted well
Turn around in the neigbors drive
I'd be hard to recognise
In this pick-up truck
It's just an old fixer up
Drive away one more time
Lot of things going thru my mind
I guess the less things change
The more they never seem the same
That's my house & that's my car
That's my dog in my back yard
There's the window to the room
Where she lays her pretty head
I planted that tree out by the fence
Not long after we moved in
That's my kids and that's my wife
Whose that man, runnin my life
Interesting. I didn't know the 'women' in Hawthorne get married.
If I recall, there's no points. Again, it's not a moving violation. That's Maryland. Don't know how other states treat it.
true...esp. after 6 wks. time and unsustainable...(the diminishing returns. :)
