Thank you, (((((((Maggie))))))).
We missed you, and are glad you got to see a lot of America up close in the past two weeks.
It's nice to be missed and nice to be back!
I think that JK and I chose the best vacation destinations this time. It wasn't a relaxing vacation (like a cruise), but what we got to see and experience was wonderful. It gave me chills touring our Capitol, the war memorials (shed some tears there), the Civil War battlefield at Manassas, Colonial Williamsburg, Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie in historic Charleston. History has always been a passion of mine and to actually be there, where it happened, was a great experience. Not wanting to miss anything, we walked miles and miles each day.....and we returned home tired but happy travelers.
I think next time we will tour New England, where we both have roots going back to the pilgrims. But for now, I need a vacation from our vacation. :-)
I loved to listen to my mother describe being 17 when World War I ended, and everyone in Charleston
streaming out to The Battery to celebrate together.
Five years later, after college and teaching school for a year, she and my father eloped to Charleston, and were
married in the church my grandfather had had, with
her best friend from her teen years her maid of honor.
I lived there in 1968-1969, and through the years
went there often when visiting my sisters.
