Congressman Mac Collins Statement On Saddam Husseins Court Appearance Congressman Mac Collins issued this statement before taking questions from reporters today (Thursday) at an Atlanta press conference. Today, Saddam Hussein, the butcher of Baghdad, and his evil henchmen begin the process of paying for the crimes they have committed against the Iraqi people and the rest of the world. Saddams brutality against his own people through the years, and most notably the mass attacks against the Kurds in 1998, will be met with swift justice at the hands of the Iraqi people.
This action, by the Iraqi courts, demonstrates to the world, that the Iraqi interim government will take steps to insure their own security and to insure that evil deeds will be met by the force of justice.
An evil dictatorship is ending and the brighter day of a new democracy is dawning in Iraq. As this trial will clearly demonstrate, those who oppose the formation of a democracy in Iraq, and engage in terrorist acts will pay for their crimes.
I have full faith in the Iraqi courts to fairly dispense justice in these cases and in the Iraqi interim government to bring to justice those who use violence to oppose their rule. I applaud the Iraqi people for their dedication to punishing those who have oppressed them and for taking steps to prevent such oppression from occurring again.

Congressman Mac Collins represents Georgias Eighth Congressional District. He is a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He has traveled to Iraq and through his committee work watches Iraqi activities on a daily basis. The Congressman led a Congressional delegation to Iraq last Thanksgiving and hopes to visit Iraq again in the near future to confer with the new government leaders.
He (Mac Collins) is running for the Senate seat that Zell Miller is vacating, but his campaign has been so low key that it is non-existent.
