There are those that still think of islam as having the same God as judaism and christianity. There are lots of people, (even some here), who are unaware of the true nature and history of Islam.
Their reaction is understandable only to the degree that they are ignorant.

As far as Im concerned, Islam sucks. They need to convince me that they are benevolent. But their silence is deafening. The only history I know of is a pedophile who probabaly had epilepsy being elevated to "prophet" status 600 years after Christ died.
