Prayers for our troops in the field , their families and our nation and allies as we wage war against terrorists, both foreign and domestic.
We need the rain, but too much and the track will be too wet and cool. Poor race fans; not much shelter in the infield. Lady cop next door went to it with about 8 folks in the back of truck. They have to be getting doused.
Now At 4 PM...lightning storms were developing along the inland moving sea breeze from just west of Daytona Beach across Brevard County west of I 95 and into interior Indian River and Saint Lucie counties. Other storms were beginning to develop over lake and Orange counties from Leesburg to the attractions area west of Orlando. Through 6 PM...storms with frequent lightning...very heavy rain and gusty winds will continue to develop through the rest of the afternoon. Storms will be most common over The Interior where the East Coast sea breeze interacts with outflows from storms to the west. Storms can be expected along the I 4 corridor...across the Metro Orlando area and into central Osceola County. The storms will move very slowly with 2 to 3 inches of rain possible in a short period of time causing ponding of water on roads. Storms north of Orlando and the cape will move slowly east and back towards the coast of Volusia and northern Brevard counties. If thunder can be heard...the storm is close enough to be an immediate threat. Move indoors or get inside an all metal vehicle. |
Heck...I ain't got no room to talk. My first two years here at FR was spent under the name viligantcitizen.
Did I read that right? That's as much rain as we get here all summer.
Ya...them storms look like they ain't goin' anywhere.
We often get a few inches in an hour. I emptied the rain gauge as the storm approached. I will go check it as soon as the lightning lets up.. Wish I could take a pic of it coming off my roof. I used to catch the runoff in my garbage can for watering my garden, and could easily fill it in one storm (50 gal). Not much roof area, either. what really hurts is when you ride a motorcycle in it on the highway; those big drops hurt like chit.
It usually rains alot in Florida, but from what RBA has said, Daytona's been kinda dry this year.
BTW...I went through USN bootcamp in Orlando, 1986. It rained everyday around 4 pm, and we lost a recruit to a lightning strike.
Ok, just for you...
I am soaking wet and dodged bolts! The gage reads right at 1" (one inch) and the time on my PC says 5:19 and the rain broke open in a big way at 5:01.
1" in 18 minutes.
Wow, am sorry to hear the loss.
You can about set your watch by the storms.
I almost went thru that in Orlando, but went to aviation school instead. It has been dry here. We went about two months with almost no rain at all. June was good, but it is still very dry.
test
During some of the winter months here it can rain straight for 3 or 4 days and not add up to a half inch. Moss grows on the north side of your rain coat...
Sounds like Blythe?
My teams name is JuniorsDreamTeam in the FR racing league. So HE is my guy, Harvick is on the team at a track where he runs good like the upcoming Brickyard race. He was placed as an alternate in the "A" section this week because of qualifying potential.
He qualified 2nd last year in July and 1st the year before plus 2nd 02/02. And he usually finishes well at Tona and Dega both.
It's ok to pick on me mercilessly everyone does. ;-)
But that means turn about is fair play!
Oh brother they should just move these tracks out here to California where the sun is always out. ;-)
Well, I like getting picked on.
GO GORDON!! YOU ROCK!!!
Wouldn't that use up all the gas in California? Aren't you guys on rations, or is that just for SUVs? :o)
The rain is letting up, sounds like the thunder is rolling from the south now, and the storm is moving ESE so this is good.
