Iranian Foreign Minister Says His Country Won't Stop Nuclear Program

MEXICO CITY (AP) - Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi on Wednesday rejected international pressure to halt his country's work on centrifuges for its nuclear program. Speaking to reporters during an official visit to Mexico, he said the aims of Iran's nuclear program were peaceful and he defended his country's plans to build nuclear energy facilities.

"We have no obligation to postpone the construction of the centrifuges," Kharrazi said.

The centrifuges are used to make the enriched uranium which can be used as nuclear reactor fuel or to make bombs.

He said that Iran will keep working closely with the International Atomic Energy Agency and said that "they have the assurance we are not trying (to develop) nuclear arms."

The agency earlier this month approved a resolution rebuking Iran for past nuclear cover-ups. The United States accuses Iran of trying to build nuclear weapons.

Kharrazi met with Mexican President Vicente Fox on Wednesday to discussed building closer business ties and creating new cultural exchanges between their two countries. Both rich in oil and gas reserves, Mexico and Iran established diplomatic relations in 1964.

Kharrazi also touched on Iraq in comments to reporters, saying that Iran and other neighboring nations have an interest in keeping the country unified.

"Surely the neighbors of Iraq will have an important role in supporting the territorial unity, the territorial integrity of the country," he said.

The United States has expressed concern about what it sees as the potential for meddling in Iraq by Iran.

Kharrazi said Iran hopes to collaborate with Iraq's current administration to help ensure elections work.

Anyway, Iran better get their first nuke done quickly, because it'll also be their last.

Let's just rid the world of the trouble and nuke them first.....

instead, we will get the UN involved and that has so totally worked in North Korea....

They don't want a conflict with the UN, they want one with US. They want to challenge us now because they perceive us as morally confused and internally corrupt. To who do we have to thank for this confusion on Iran's part?

Why the good old press corps...NBC, ABC and CBS to go along with CNN. Thanks guys!!!!
