Employee recalls sex talk between Peterson and woman at trade show

By Jason Dearen, STAFF WRITER

REDWOOD CITY -- A ribald conversation between Scott Peterson and a woman he had just met at a trade show was so inappropriate it made one of Peterson's employees uneasy, according to the employee's testimony Tuesday in Peterson's double-murder trial. "Scott and (the woman) had a conversation that I believe was somewhat inappropriate for a married man and an engaged woman. There were discussions about sexual positions and what she liked and what he liked," said Eric Olsen, a fertilizer salesman hired by Peterson. Olsen said the steamy conversation occurred at a trade show the two men were attending at the Disneyland Hotel in October 2002. Prosecutors wanted the jury to hear the conversation, because the woman involved was Shawn Sibley, who introduced Peterson to Amber Frey shortly thereafter. Olsen's testimony marked the beginning of the prosecution's groundwork for their star witness, Frey, whom they believe inspired Peterson to murder his pregnant wife. More than a month after the dinner conversation, Sibley called Olsen with a serious question. "She wanted to know if Scott was married. At that point, as an employee of Scott's, I didn't want to be plugged into the situation going on," Olsen said. Shawn stated she wanted to set up Scott with one of her friends. I told her she needed to talk to Scott about this," Olsen said, his eyes darting between prosecutor David Harris and Peterson, who ..........

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — At a fertilizer convention two months before his wife vanished, Scott Peterson led a female colleague to believe he was single and then grilled her about her preferred sexual positions, a former employee and another conventioneer testified Tuesday afternoon.

The men told jurors in Peterson's capital murder trial that his dinnertime discussion with Shawn Sibley, a businesswoman who went on to introduce him to his mistress, became so raunchy that they wolfed down their meals and fled.........

Expert: Judge goofed

Expert: Judge goofed

By Marie Szaniszlo

The judge in the capital murder trial of Scott Peterson paved another avenue to appeal yesterday by allowing a police officer to testify about an anonymous tip, a legal expert said.

``This alleged conversation between the defendant and an anonymous caller is clearly inadmissible as evidence,'' said J. Albert Johnson, a defense attorney and former prosecutor.

Johnson was referring to Judge Alfred A. Delucchi's decision to allow Detective Allen Brocchini to testify about a man who claimed that Peterson had told him nine years earlier that if he ever killed someone, he would dump the weighted-down corpse in the ocean and let the fish eat it. .......

---- Wednesday, Jun. 30, 2004

On Wednesday, June 23, the judge in the Scott Peterson criminal trial removed one of the jurors, Justin Falconer, and called on an alternate to replace him. After Falconer was dismissed, the defense then moved for a mistrial, but its motion was denied.

In this column, I will argue that Falconer should not have been dismissed in the first place. Although Falconer slipped up in making what turned out to be an innocuous comment to a Peterson relative, the comment itself did not indicate bias on his part, and should have been forgivable under the circumstances. .......

2:14 p.m.: REDWOOD CITY -- Stanislaus County Deputy District Attorney Rick Distaso Tuesday morning showed the jury in Scott Peterson’s double-murder trial that it is easy to leave a mistaken impression.

He asked Modesto Police Detective Al Brocchini about a tip he received from one of Peterson’s college buddies, who said the defendant in 1995 described how he would dispose of a body.

“He said he would tie a bag around the neck with duct tape, put weights on the hands and throw it into the sea,” Brocchini said, recalling the phone conversation.........

How in the world could anybody be sooooo stupid to think that their pregnant wife goes MISSING on Christmas eve, and there would be no press??? The cops weren't going to question him????

I can't believe he really thought he could keep his pukey face off TV so that Amber wouldn't see him!!!

He's a barf - Head as my little nephew says!!

Yes, Greta continues to invite little Bernie. (I'm not really too bothered by Bernie any more.)

I am probably out in left field here, but I am guessing that Greta is such good friends with Bernie b/c maybe she is one of the women who just love those cuddly little lap-dog type of men.

We often hear about how "men feel threatened" by this or that sort of woman; what is less discussed is (IMO) that some women feel threatened by certain types of men.

I think it's pathetic, if it happens to be true that some successful media type like Greta might actually prefer lap-dog men.

AARGH! I wish Greta would put a sock in it! She is trying to derail the prosecution's case.

FOX should deep-six Greta and replace her with Nancy Grace.

I don't mind Bernie. He's actually pretty funny, even though I don't usually agree with him, but Ted Williams makes my hair curl---Can someone please teach him how to speak english???!!!

He used to be a detective, but he always picks the defense position, and he usually sounds like he doesn't even know what he's talking about!!

A huh- I saw her Goth Vampiric looks.

This Bothers me-
Snibley sent that e-mail: are you ready for a L -------Night of Fun (sounds like a one night guarantee). Also, this is in stark contrast to Snibley's words of: Frey looking for Long Term Meaningful Relationship. Then, there is an issue of Snott begging Snibley to set him up with one of her friends (or one of her girls? possibly)..

Humm, maybe Snibley was in another type of business on the side...Maybe Amber is one of her girls- ops friends..

Your nephew is wise beyond his years!

But I swear, he MUST have thought that. I followed this thing from day one. I do remember wondering, b/c so many family members got on TV with their tearful pleas--but not the husband. And finally the media started asking, "Where's the husband?" ALL the family members made excuses for his absence from the cameras. Including the Rochas, who clearly thought the world of him.

I thought he was must be a perfectly nice guy, b/c I noticed how his in-laws praised him, and I thought, "If your IN-LAWS like you so much, well, that's how a happy family should be." (I remember that my father and my grandmother, his mother-in-law, were good friends.)

But I certainly did notice that we saw very little of him on camera.

Then I heard that the police had said, "We're trying to clear Mr. Peterson", and they admitted that he had not been entirely helpful with this effort.

But I still wasn't onto what he was doing, even after I learned about the girlfriend.

I finally figured it out (DUH!) because a poster on here pointed it out. Scott was always wearing his cap down low whenever he had to walk by cameras. The media reported that "the husband doesn't want to give interviews on camera." He wouldn't sit on the stage (where the cameras were) during the vigil. He had his hair cut so that even the sides of his head were shaved. Thus, when he wore the cap, you couldn't see ANY of his hair. And let's not forget that note of thanks he posted in the search center. He didn't sign it with his NAME. He signed it "Laci's Husband." HE ACTUALLY THOUGHT THAT AMBER WOULD NOT FIGURE OUT THAT HE WAS THE HUSBAND OF THE MISSING WOMAN.

If I hadn't been convinced by what the poster pointed out, all I had to do was wait till right after Amber's big first press conference. Directly after that, Scott was all over in the media. Suddenly he was giving face-to-face interviews. A complete and obvious turnaround: he knew the jig was up.

Yes, they were so hepped up about this duct-tape crap that you'd have thought the police/prosecution had been caught putting panties on Scott's head.

Greta seemed to be trying to be fair, for a while. But she can't forget her home boys, of which the physically (and otherwise) repulsive Geragos is one. Once a Clintonista, always a Clintonista, I guess.

Yes, Ted's pretty illiterate!

Bernie is kind of like Wally Cox or something. Non-threatening, a good one to break up the screaming matches with some inane comment.

All of them players in the "passion play" that is cable talk TV!

I'm so sick of the talking heads, except for Nancy Grace and Beth Karas.

Again Greta suggests they move for a mistrial. All seem disappointed with the DA who either doesn't know the facts or isn't paying close attention.

I am really getting fed up with this. If Broconi(sp) lied on the stand snott goes free...I stated I thought prosocutions no dummies but now really starting to wonder... And jerko#5 I have heard enough from

Obviously a leak from the defense. According to Greta the taped interview of SP's friend from 1995 does not say anything about the body being wrapped with duck tape. So they are implying that Broccini made it up. We'll have to wait until Tuesday.

You know juzcuz, I feel sorry for the Rocha's too however I think LE has full informed them of what to expect. I remember Sharon Rocha testifying and saying "Until December 24th, I thought the world of Scott Peterson"!! What a shock to find out your beautiful daughter and nearly born grandson were in the hands of such an evil POS!!

Right. On Greta they were asserting that a tape and transcript of this man's statement was made, and I think I heard them say it was actually an affidavit.

Sounds to me like Brocchini was quite thorough enough in checking it out.

On Greta, they said that the actual statement, while it is much as Brocchini related it, does NOT mention duct tape. The TH's on Greta then suggested that Brocchini made up that detail, and was committing perjury, and that Distaso had a duty to stop that, and that he didn't, and... mistrial city, etc., etc.

Someone did suggest that maybe Distaso hadn't actually memorized the guy's statement, so maybe he didn't realize that the duct tape part wasn't precisely accurate. At which point a talking head said, "Well then he should have known his case better!"

I don't know. I really don't. The folks on Greta were swearing up and down that this is "hugh". That this will blast everything all to hell, come next week. I don't know about that.

First of all, do those talking heads already have a copy of the guy's statement? If they do, they sure are on the ball--must be paying someone some big bucks. (Oops, what am I talking about--Geragos would give it to them!)

I think the judge can take some quick remedial measures. The talking heads were acting like Distaso just gratuitously started bringing in hearsay evidence--conveniently forgetting that it was GERAGOS who started doing that!

Greta advised Geragos to ask for a mistrial. Will he? He has more to think about than whether he just has an "error". He has to decide if he thinks he is on the road to winning this case. (Knowing his ego, he probably does.) If he thinks he is really on the fast track to winning, then he wouldn't want to sincerely ask for a mistrial--he might get one! Where will the Petersons get the next million+ dollars to pay to start all this over again?

Of course, if a mistrial occurred, then Geragos or some other lucky lawyer would have to scramble around to claim that it would be double jeopardy to try Scumbag again. I can't think of any reason why it would be double jeopardy. But I haven't given it any real thought at the moment.

So, assuming they have no possible double jeopardy claim, then let's suppose they ask for a mistrial, and get one. What have they gained? Another year in jail for Scott, regardless of whether he is ultimately acquitted? Scott's not gonna go for that. And the second time around, I highly doubt that we would see Geragos' highly photogenic face at the defense table. It might just be Menendez all over again! Fine with me!

Nancy Grace got off a good one tonight. Someone from the "Scott" team said something to her about a stupid mistake Scott apparently made. He said something to the effect of: Well, Nancy, so how did Scott suddenly go from being this smart diabolical criminal, to being so stupid?

Nancy answered, "I never said he was smart!"

Yes, I could stand to get all my info on this thing from just Nancy and Beth Karas.

Defense is in full spin cycle. Brocchini was relating what was said on the phone. The fact that the guy changed his story while being taped probably helped Brocchini in deeming him unreliable.

http://www.nypost.com/news/regionalnews/24096.htm

"The pal phoned cops with the tale April 19, 2003, the day after Peterson was arrested for allegedly murdering Laci and their unborn son. "
