Employee recalls sex talk between Peterson and woman at trade show
By Jason Dearen, STAFF WRITER
REDWOOD CITY -- A ribald conversation between Scott Peterson and a woman he had just met at a trade show was so inappropriate it made one of Peterson's employees uneasy, according to the employee's testimony Tuesday in Peterson's double-murder trial. "Scott and (the woman) had a conversation that I believe was somewhat inappropriate for a married man and an engaged woman. There were discussions about sexual positions and what she liked and what he liked," said Eric Olsen, a fertilizer salesman hired by Peterson. Olsen said the steamy conversation occurred at a trade show the two men were attending at the Disneyland Hotel in October 2002. Prosecutors wanted the jury to hear the conversation, because the woman involved was Shawn Sibley, who introduced Peterson to Amber Frey shortly thereafter. Olsen's testimony marked the beginning of the prosecution's groundwork for their star witness, Frey, whom they believe inspired Peterson to murder his pregnant wife. More than a month after the dinner conversation, Sibley called Olsen with a serious question. "She wanted to know if Scott was married. At that point, as an employee of Scott's, I didn't want to be plugged into the situation going on," Olsen said. Shawn stated she wanted to set up Scott with one of her friends. I told her she needed to talk to Scott about this," Olsen said, his eyes darting between prosecutor David Harris and Peterson, who ..........

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. At a fertilizer convention two months before his wife vanished, Scott Peterson led a female colleague to believe he was single and then grilled her about her preferred sexual positions, a former employee and another conventioneer testified Tuesday afternoon.
The men told jurors in Peterson's capital murder trial that his dinnertime discussion with Shawn Sibley, a businesswoman who went on to introduce him to his mistress, became so raunchy that they wolfed down their meals and fled.........

Expert: Judge goofed
By Marie Szaniszlo

The judge in the capital murder trial of Scott Peterson paved another avenue to appeal yesterday by allowing a police officer to testify about an anonymous tip, a legal expert said.
``This alleged conversation between the defendant and an anonymous caller is clearly inadmissible as evidence,'' said J. Albert Johnson, a defense attorney and former prosecutor.
Johnson was referring to Judge Alfred A. Delucchi's decision to allow Detective Allen Brocchini to testify about a man who claimed that Peterson had told him nine years earlier that if he ever killed someone, he would dump the weighted-down corpse in the ocean and let the fish eat it. .......

On Wednesday, June 23, the judge in the Scott Peterson criminal trial removed one of the jurors, Justin Falconer, and called on an alternate to replace him. After Falconer was dismissed, the defense then moved for a mistrial, but its motion was denied.
In this column, I will argue that Falconer should not have been dismissed in the first place. Although Falconer slipped up in making what turned out to be an innocuous comment to a Peterson relative, the comment itself did not indicate bias on his part, and should have been forgivable under the circumstances. .......

2:14 p.m.: REDWOOD CITY -- Stanislaus County Deputy District Attorney Rick Distaso Tuesday morning showed the jury in Scott Petersons double-murder trial that it is easy to leave a mistaken impression.
He asked Modesto Police Detective Al Brocchini about a tip he received from one of Petersons college buddies, who said the defendant in 1995 described how he would dispose of a body.
He said he would tie a bag around the neck with duct tape, put weights on the hands and throw it into the sea, Brocchini said, recalling the phone conversation.........

Abrams report says Scott was crying to Shawn that he had lost his wife and it was "too painful" to talk about...Wanted to tell Amber himself..
Living a doublelife ...about to come to an end if found out...(I am haunted by the psychologist on CC show saying Scott's words indicate he wants to be rid of Laci.)
Dec,6th call to Shawn, Amber..crying he'd "lost" his wife, too painful to discuss.
8th tides researched on computer,
9th buys boat,
20th buys fishing license, fills in 23rd, 24th as dates for ,"last minute ,impulse fishing trip" ..
He was viewed on the 24th and has receipt for parking/launch at Bay.
Laci last heard from the evening of the 23rd at 8:30 pm....Months later her body and the baby's body discovered washed up in the same area of Bay he fished in.
I think he did it, but he is going to get off. The prosecution has blown the case.
This has been a good two days for the prosecution. It is not over until the jury comes back.(#101)...
That's okay, you're not supposed to be convinced yet. Wait until it's over.
WOW! That is SOME summary, thanks!!
There is a lot to comment on, but let me just say one little thing: Scott told the cops there was no electricity at his warehouse. He told them this late in the evening of Dec. 24.
Now, Scott's last visit to his warehouse had (according to him) been at about 4-something, on the afternoon of Dec. 24, and according to this summary, while there, he CHECKED HIS E-MAIL.
So, if he checked his e-mail--meaning that the electricity was on during his last visit to the warehouse, then how did he "know" that the electricity was "out" later that evening when he told the cops it was out?
As for the people who said they saw Scott during the night and morning of Dec. 23-24, that info just knocked my socks off! If any of those people turns out to be accurate--if there really is a witness who saw him at or on the way to Berkeley during that time period, that ought to REALLY blow him out of the water on his claims of innocence! He says he was at Berkeley from 12:54 p.m. Dec. 24; his cellphone shows he was out of Berkeley, at Livermore, by about 4 p.m. So if that was the sum-total of his trip to Berkeley, then how in the HELL are they going to explain his being at Berkeley during the night/morning of Dec. 23-24??
RG, in kcvl's summary, there's that thing about Mrs. Medina supposedly seeing Scott's truck in the driveway at 5 a.m. on Dec. 24. We must look that up; I hope it is as you said, that she only said she saw a vehicle, and that she did not specifically say it was Scott's truck.
Sorry, I'm not convinced yet that she was in the boat. It has not been proved that she was in the boat.
Thanks for the timeline info, Meg!
Get a load of that post by kcvl. It says there are apparently people who saw Scott doing stuff during the night of Dec. 23-24!
According to that account by kcvl, Scott was away from home for his birthday. Hmm.
I hope they are more reliable that all the Laci sightings..
Very well expressed, RG!
The only way to figure out what really happened here is to pay attention! Coming into the midst of all these details and making grand pronouncements is like someone crashing into an operating room smack-dab in the middle of surgery, and saying, "Hey, you guys are supposed to be making this patient well--so how come you cut his abdomen open like that?"
Great post!
Since way early on, we've been hearing rumors of various people who may have seen Scott out and about during that night. There was the report of the truckdriver who saw him on the road towards Berkeley, in the wee hours. Then at one point a tabloid reported that a large hotel in the area of the marina had security cameras which showed his truck/boat driving past in the middle of the night.
And now these. I hope they pan out, too!
"According to Det. Al Brocchini's preliminary hearing testimony, Scott Peterson is seen driving his truck on Interstate 580 in the direction of the Berkeley Marina at 3:00 a.m. [on Dec. 24]"
OH, yeah!
I used to know a guy who was a very successful sales rep. He later started his own rep agency.
"Player" doesn't even begin to express it, lol!
After a while, I think these b.s.-ers come to enjoy the sport of it: to enjoy seeing just how outlandish they can get with their tales, and still have "chicks" believe them. LOL.
Get a load of Post 75!
And please join me in my little jingle, which I usually reserve for politicians, but with which I now honor Scott:
(Sung to the tune of "I've Been Workin' on the Railroad")
"He's a lying sack of ca-ca,
All the livelong day!"
Ouch!
I am aware..I am worried about an early morning timeline.../conflicting witnesses.
The jurors in that case were finding evidence on their own and not in the record, which means they couldn't use it. Same with this one... planting the seed won't be enough, unless the college friend testifies under oath what Brocchini said can be grounds for an appeal by the defense if any of the jurors base their verdict on it. Some think the prosecution hit a home run with that one, I don't think so.
The man's conviction was overturned on appeal--insufficient evidence.
Barring some unexpected suprises by the prosecution evidence wise I think the same thing will happen here should Peterson be convicted. He most likely is guilty but there's not enough there to pass the test in my opinion.
Looks that way to me too.
