Norton no longer wants the draft reinstated

Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) has withdrawn her support of legislation that would reinstate the military draft, because she believes it would bolster the Bush administration’s ability to wage several wars simultaneously.

Norton initially backed Rep. Charles Rangel’s (D-N.Y.) bill on the draft in January 2003. But a Norton spokeswoman said the legislator now believes the bill, if enacted, would force draftees to fight wars they might not support. The spokeswoman added that a draft would help President Bush’s “preemptive” war on terrorism.

Rangel said last year that he introduced the bill to highlight the large percentage of minorities who are enlisted. He said at the time, “For those who say the poor fight better, I say give the rich a chance.”

Norton was pleased that the Rangel bill “got that debate going,” her spokeswoman said.

Rangel’s bill is supported by 13 Democrats, including Reps. James Moran (Va.) and John Lewis (Ga.).

And she didn't believe that before?

I may have been overestimating Delegate Norton's intelligence.

Always believed a draft would be good for America's kids. Nothing like an Army DI to beat some sense into a child when the liberal education system fails.

A conscripted aux border patrol might not be a bad idea either.

Dims are funny, when they're blinded by hatred.

This just shows that the Democrats don't really know what they want any more than usual...

Umm... what else does the draft do? It's kind of late for her to be figuring this out.

Draft aside, why wouldn't she want to "help" fight terrorists? What an Un-American hag.

The leftists can't keep their provocations straight. First they want the draft because they think it'll inflame anti-war sentiment, especially on campus. Then they get to the next thought, which is that it would give Bush/Hitler a bigger army to draw on for his imperialist schemes, so they don't want it again. They're slow, stupid dinosaurs you can see coming a mile away.

So she voted for the bill before she opposed it. What else is new?

She's a delegate, she can only rant and rave on the floor... she has no voting rights on the floor...

Oh goodness. This is a standard Dem political tactic. Dems start a fire ("reinstitute the draft"), and then when they look like they are losing in the polls, they feed the strawman fire ("eeks! Might give Bush more reason for evil War!!!" So boring. The endless Dem/Lib Umbrella tag-alongs will be forthcoming.. And as these voices "coalesc" into a symphonic left-wing concerted aria as provided and fed to US Joe Taxpayer by the so in-the-same-orchestra media.. Begins it's anti-war-attack from a new angle. One they haven't quite tried yet; but no doubts, it's already been hatched. Norton Holmes is a hack and flack; a feminist -- and the feminists have already asserted they are "IN" for the next yodel strategem being launched. That's why Norton-Holmes got to play this card. pshaw.
(P.s. I pronounce Reuters, as "rooters", too :) )

DU has been up in arms and wild eyed (can't use that discriptor often enough) over the thought of a draft. They are in a frenzy, planning on which country to emigrate to, planning their riots, etc., if a draft goes into effect. They are losing it in anger at the Bush administration, yet it's their own party that has been calling for the draft.

They are absolutely insane.
