SACRAMENTO, California (AP) -- The mother of a soldier killed in Iraq invited news coverage of the arrival of her son's flag-draped casket at Sacramento International Airport.
Nearly a dozen reporters, photographers and television crews were present when the coffin of Army Sgt. Patrick McCaffrey, 34, was transferred to a hearse outside a cargo terminal late Sunday.
The scene was in stark contrast with Pentagon policy banning photographs of the coffins of dead military personnel while they are on military facilities.

Some Liberals will go to any length to push their agenda, even if it means dishonoring their dead children.
The media is just wanting to use the war-dead as anti-Bush fodder. They didn't care one whit about who they were when they were alive.
Quite the contrary. The Left has utter contempt for servicemen when they're alive.
Thanks. When posting this, an automatic edit was done, I did not know it would come out as it did.
That's what the polling data says is Bush's only weakness that Kerry can capitalize on.
Again, mom got to see her son first. Thats all us other moms are asking. Geez... we brought them onto this earth first, we should be able to tell them goodbye from this earth first.
It was the mother who called the media to this event. I cannot fault them for covering it.
I did not see anything in the article that indicated that she got to see him first.
My son served over there and is now home. I know the last thing that both his mother and I would have wanted was a medias circus. I think that would be a time to be alone and/or with loved ones, not to be answering questions from strangers.
Does anyone honestly believe that if this happened during a Bubba/Gore/Kerry administration, that the media would give this woman the time of day?
And one solid way to show the American Public the true military is to display the flag correctly and to conduct the military part of the funeral with the dignity and grace it demands.
President reagan's funeral did nothing to tarnish the image of the military. On the contrary. The military performed spectacularly with pride, dignity and tradition that made many cry.
My take on the article was that the mom was given the right to choose who she invited in to view her son at the airport. She was allowed the option of seeing her son first. My son just got home also, and my very strong thought was that if he was killed in action, I wanted to see him first before anyone else. I would not have wanted the media there, but this mother chose to do this. What these goofy people want is for the photographers to be taking pictures whenever they feel like it. That should not be an option ever. Only the family should make that decision. And that is my thought, every mom should be able to see her baby first.
Funny, that you should mention that fact. As I watched the funeral, I could just imagine a liberal seething with hatred of the patriotism and respect for the military, that was present. Everything went off beautifully, despite Runny's effort to turn it into another Wellstone funerally.

I do remember a fathers speech about his son dying in a dusty street in Somalia as the president finished up a round of golf. It didn't get much media play as I recall.
Actully if anyone knows where i can find the text of the speech it would be greatly appreciated.
He spent his entire time in the Military trying to save other soldiers.
I bet he's quite embarrassed about his mothers actions.....since her actions are the opposite of his.

Is that the man who told Bubba, in the Oval Office, that he was a disgrace to the office of the Presidency?
It might have been. It seems that the speech was read aloud to the senate. I assume there were few democrats present at it's reading.
As I watched the burial services in California, I noticed that seemingly all of the Military personnel and Police that were present, came up to the casket and paid their respects. This was done after all attendees had done the same. One of the thoughts that went through my mind at that time was if they were under orders to do so. I think not. That seems like an order that would not be given.
I also wondered how these soldiers would respond in a similar situation to a President, whom they did not respect.
might have been Casey Joyce the fathers name is Larry and he spoke to the senate.
Senator Hutchisons memory of the day she met Larry Joyce.
