Judge tells Peterson jury to keep quiet

REDWOOD CITY -- The judge in the Scott Peterson double-murder trial Monday warned all of the trial participants not to talk about the case to the media.

Judge Alfred Delucchi was responding to stories that surfaced at the end of last week, when a representative of the Modesto Police Department publicly defended Detective Al Brocchini, who has been the subject of harsh criticism by Peterson's lawyer Mark Geragos during his time on the witness stand.

"This has to stop. Go tell the chief he's going to have to sit on his people," Delucchi told a Modesto police captain. .........

The Peterson Trial

MONDAY

Judge Alfred Delucchi scolded Modesto police Monday.

Lead defense attorney Mark Geragos continued his quest to show that Modesto police zeroed in on his client, Scott Peterson, while ignoring other credible leads that poured in after 27-year-old Laci Peterson was reported missing.

First Geragos pointed to Kim McGregor, a neighbor who admitted to police that she stole a video camera, several jackets and Laci Peterson's Social Security card from the Petersons' Covena Avenue home.

He also suggested that Amber Frey, Scott Peterson's former girlfriend, held back some taped phone calls from authorities after agreeing to secretly record her conversations with Scott.

The suggestions came during a wide-ranging cross-examination of Detective Al Brocchini, who took the witness stand for a fourth day.

Also, Superior Court Judge Alfred Delucchi released dozens ........

REDWOOD CITY -- Kim McGregor appeared to be infatuated with Scott Peterson, and she robbed his home after his wife disappeared.

Monday, Peterson's defense team pointed to the Peterson neighbor as an indication that police ignored other suspects in the missing-person case that turned into a double homicide.

Lead attorney Mark Geragos also suggested that Peterson's former girlfriend, Amber Frey -- after she agreed to secretly record her conversations with Peterson -- did not reveal some of the calls.

The questioning about McGregor and Frey came as Geragos cross-examined Modesto police Detective Al Brocchini for a third day. The defense scored a blow toward the end of last week when Brocchini admitted that he "excised" a key piece of information from a police report.

Sgt. Ed Steele came to Brocchini's defense Friday in an interview with The Associated Press, violating a gag order in the case. This led to a warning -- but no sanctions -- from Superior Court Judge Alfred Delucchi to the Police Department.

Delucchi reminded all of the participants that the order issued by Stanislaus County Judge Al Girolami before the trial began forbids not only the attorneys and police from commenting on the case but also any witnesses who have been subpoenaed, including family members of either Scott or Laci Peterson. The judge said that while he did not want to be a "policeman," he would not hesitate to use his authority to prevent anyone involved in the trial from talking to the media.

"If it doesn't stop, I'm going to have to do something ...........

OHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Darn it.

I was so hoping that I would at last get an answer to a couple questions that have been bugging me ever since Queen Jadis on here told me about the Kim McGregor burglary.

My questions: WHY? Why in the HECK did Kim McGregor take, for example, a videocam, from the house, only to dump it in a restaurant grease bin? And why did she take "8 jackets", only to dump them in an alley? And why did she break a window, when she had a key?

It just would've made a lot more sense, if I'd thought she had the usual monetary gain as the motive. I know she's "bipolar", but sheesh, how manic does she GET in her manic stages?? We've all known "bipolar" people who might overspend or overdrink or something, but I'm sure the great majority of them stop short at doing a felony, no matter how "off" they are. And Kim, while she had many misdemeanors on her record, had no felony record.

The pros were saying enough cad info...!..What they want is Amber, missing anchors, strange interviews, medical info, etc...the meat!..I think Amber's tapes can pretty well establish "cad"!...(watch them go after Amber and her conversations with Laci's friends and family)

Many men are cads and don't commit murder is the reasoning and jurors know this...(however it is most unusual to find a wife murderer who isn't a cad!)

It's showing his bad character

He's a slim ball, but as we've heard countless times, even by MG himself, the jury will come to see Snott as a cad, an adulterer and a liar, but that does not make him a murderer. It is up to the prosecutors to convince them. I'm confident once they hammer home where her body was found in relation to his boat; his statement early on to Sharon that Laci was 'missing'; explosive conversations we've yet to hear from Amber and asking about cadaver dogs will be enough for an intelligent person to convict.

BTW when someone asked Stan Goldman who was the better of the two lawyers (Distaso and Geragos) he said since he taught both, he wouldn't opine. Geragos seems older than Goldman even before Goldman's eye lift.

Well, you know how it is. Even the media types that we LIKE have to have something "out there" on their shows, to attract viewers, or so they seem to think.

What drives me nuts is that they feel they just HAVE to set up all these shows in terms of "this is the DEBATE tonight... see which side you want to root for." I get so darn sick of things like, "American beheaded in Iraq... what does this mean for America and where do you stand on this issue?" GIVE ME A BREAK! OBVIOUSLY, I "stand" on the side that screams, "This is horrible and I want to personally hunt down and kill each and every person who did this, in the most gruesome possible way." Duh!

So what they need to do, at least for this case, is just have a little, half-hour show--they don't have to run it every day, though I'd prefer that--about Trial News. (No, not "Trial Heat"--Trial NEWS.) On this little show, Beth Karas or someone from inside the courtroom would just show up and TELL us, "I heard the following testimony today, etc. I saw the following facial expressions on the faces of [witnesses, jury, defendant.] The judge said [fill in the blank.] Here are some photos of evidence. Here is a thumbnail sketch of each witness who testified today, in case you haven't heard of this person before."

Period! NEWS! Not a bunch of idiots arguing. We can have the bunch of idiots argue on other shows, for entertainment, but what we really want is an account of what we ourselves are blocked from seeing--the real thing, what actually was said and done in the courtroom.

As for Nancy having ol' Justin on, I guess the unspoken subtext for that (in my mind, at least) was something like, "Psst! Get a load of this guy! Can you believe there are actually people out there who are as vapid and loser-ish as this guy, and they are actually allowed to reproduce?"

Alas, Scott may have built up an unnecessary and dangerous dependence on Viagra, and while people can get some drugs in jail, I doubt Viagra is one that's available. He's looking a little wilted lately.

HEY EVERYBODY!

I posted at 198, giving the impression that Kim McGregor was the same as someone named Kim Brown. Kim Brown was found guilty or pled guilty of a credit card fraud involving her posing as someone related to the Laci Peterson case, to get some sort of gain, something to do with a hotel room.

Kim Brown is not the same as Kim McGregor. (I thought she was.) Turns out I have NOTHING to make us think MCGREGOR is in jail.

I know RGS already knows this was a mistake. Probably the rest of you do, too, but just in case, I wanted to clear up what I said earlier--it was a mistake.

I heard that the judge let it stand, and told Geragos to zip it when he threw his usual tantrum.

Let's drop back a bit. WHO was it that got to questioning Brocchini about a whole bunch of "what ifs", i.e., tips that Brocchini got that didn't pan out? WHO was it that started all that "what if" stuff, just so he could then look at Brocchini and shake his head and say, "And you didn't follow up on THAT one any more, either?"

That person who did all the above stuff is the same person who left HIMSELF and his client vulnerable to the "what if" regarding this guy who allegedly told the cops that he had the body disposal conversation with Scott a long time ago.

That same person opened the door to it, and is now complaining about the door HE himself opened. The judge, like many judges before him, apparently said, "You brought it on yourself, so now you can't complain!"

If it's true about Shawn and Scott talking about sexual positions at what may have been their first dinner together (not alone, but in company with several others), then there will be a problem if Shawn goes too far talking about Peterson giving her the creeps.

If she actively took part in the "positions" discussion with him, then she will look like a hypocrite if she now expresses disapproval of his behavior during that dinner. I hope she is given a chance to explain: maybe she was being lighthearted and risqué that evening, but maybe she now has realized the horror that she didn't know about back then, that someone would lose her life b/c Scott can't keep it in his pants!

Thank you, fiesti!

Okay, I guess the Court TV updates are SORT of like a show about the latest facts. But they need to re-broadcast those shows every night--instead of running hour after hours of "Cops", as they often do! Don't they realize some people have trouble catching the shows during the daytime??

True, because she fixed up her friend Amber with him. You don't fix up your friend with someone you don't like..

The judge, like many judges before him, apparently said, "You brought it on yourself, so now you can't complain!" Indeed and MG was short sighted and failed to monitor his opponents strategy. Ah, to have been in that courtroom to watch him brought down a notch. Given all that, I still cannot understand how Greta could suggest he call for a mistrial. He watches her show so her advice was said for his benefit and it will be interesting to see if he heeds it tomorrow.

The report I heard was that the gun had debris on it , from Beth Karas. She did not make it sound like it was anything. She is the one reporter in this that I believe is telling the truth without any spin. My opinion only-----

Yeah, I can kind of picture it.

"He gave me the creeps."

"Ms. Sibley, do you often talk about SEXUAL POSITIONS with guys who give you the creeps?"

"Well, he was just kind of creepy..."

"So, thinking him creepy, you did what any other redblooded American girl would do, Ms. Sibley--you fixed him up with your good friend?"

I think Shawn's best bet will be to say, "Okay, I was talking about sex with him, and I realized later that it made some people uncomfortable, and I was wrong to talk that way in public. I am cringing right now, thinking how my mother is going to view how I conversed with this man that night. I shouldn't have done it. I had a feeling he was a bit creepy, but he was so interested, he said, in finding a soulmate, that he just begged me to go out with him, and I was already engaged. I finally gave in and told him I'd give my friend his number. He may have seemed creepy to ME, but everyone has different opinions, and she was feeling lonely at the time."
