AUSTIN -- Erica Anthony-Benavides is a junior at Trinity University in San Antonio, a member of Ladies in Physics and not very politically active. But because she signed a petition against the war in Iraq, a national conservative Internet site has declared her an enemy of America.
A conservative known as "Doug from Upland" took the petition and turned it into a posting called "Here is the enemy" on FreeRepublic.com. .....

When RG contacted me, I began by asking questions about his politics. I didn't want this to be a total hit piece.
We don't regularly encourage FReepers to interfere with someone's job. It has, however, happened a few times. Jameel Rashid has no business being in the Coast Guard if he can't be trusted to support the mission. When you see your fellow soldiers as an occupying imperialist army, it is hard to believe that you support the mission and would risk your life to save a comrade's. No one should try to do anything to affect his job as a janitor. I did not state that he shouldn't be in the CG because of what he thought. He can think anything as long as he is loyal to the troops and mission. Signing the petition was wrong, and a warrant officer agreed and was grateful that they were notified. He actually could hardly believe what the nitwit did. Remember the soldier who threw the grenade in the tent last year?
Another time when FReepers took action was when JimRob was getting direct email from a whackjob who worked for some state's department of transportation. He was spending time using his govenment computer to tell everyone how is was so much smarter than the stupid FReepers. He spent a great deal of time stealing time from his government job and posting messages on FR. When the boss checked out his computer messages and what he had been doing in lieu of his actual job, he was canned.
For those who are curious, yes I have previously received threats by phone, email, and snail mail because I dared to have an opinion that doesn't agree with those gentle people who have flowers in their hair.
It's been noticed that the self named "party of tolerance" is actually quite the opposite...their biggest enemy is anyone who doesn't agree with their increasingly radical positions.
Kudos to you for doing the right thing, Doug.
This might be a foundation that we need to remember. Anyone know anything about it?
HERE IS THE ENEMY -- they have posted their names A.N.S.W.E.R. | 3-7-04 | dfu
"They're foul-mouthed and vile and they call for violent behavior," Doug said.
Nicely done.
Way ta go, Doug! :-D
ping!
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my infrequent miscellaneous ping list.
WAAAAAH!! WAAAAAAAAAHHH!!! MOOOMMmY!!! << sniffle... >> All I did was sign a Petition and now they're calling me NAmES!! wAaaAAAAAH! Nobody was supposed to KNOW I signed it!!! WAAAAAAAaahhhh.... MOMMy... MAke them STOP... << Sob.... >> << Whimper... >>
People who are "not politically active" probably shouldn't sign petitions, especially if they don't understand what they are signing, or are not willing to defend that decision in public. The point of a petition is a formal declaration of a position, usually for the purposed of persuading others. But I am sure she just wanted to save the baby ducks and have everyone just get along.
If I were a liberal I would be upset as well but they are fighting a country that is growing more conservative as it ages.
BUMP
The reason for this is not talk radio, cable television, and the internet, but the increasingly extremist position that is becoming mainstream in leftist circles.
They are comparing the leadership of the United States to Hitler's Germany, to the point where even the former Vice President of the United States is repeating this refrain with his recent "brownshirts" comment.
We have people like these, unabashedly proclaiming their contempt for America's military personnell by calling for the treasonous murder of officers:
We have Hillary Clinton plainly espousing her plan to impose socialist wealth redistribution through the force of government.
Who's polarizing the nation? The leftists themselves, by presenting themselves as the party of hate, fraud, capitulation, and theft.
Keep up the good fight. Screw the left.
Yes, but that's only because they don't read the NYTimes CLOSELY enough. It was the NYTimes that admitted that Bush would have won anyway, somewhere deep in their pages. Can anyone find it? I also recall having seen an article by CNN.com where it was admitted. Any takers?
It is not widening the rift, it is EXOSING a rift and it is exposing the FACT that they have ALWAYS been more conservative than liberals. The media has and IS the echochamber of on voice and doublespeak in support of democrats.
lastly: "DUer"? they have always conducted themselves like DUmies.
