Thank you everybody for all of your great comments and insights! I am so happy for the Iraqi people I can hardly contain myself...I think that Iraq will ultimately serve as, among other things, a catalyst for peace and prosperity throughout the Arab world, and it won't be long before the nay-sayers who said it couldn't be done will be very red-faced over their words and actions from the past few years....I hope that they will be held appropriately accountable.

One item in particular in the transcript above stood out to me, and I'd be very interested in comments from you all. It's in the press questions section and here it is:

"Q: Andrew Martin, BBC. Could I ask both leaders, following on from that, do we, in some sense, then, give the new Iraqi administration carte blanche to go after these people? The Iraqi Defense Minister was talking this morning about hunting down and eliminating the insurgents. "

This struck me as emblematic of the astonishing denseness exhibited on a regular basis by so very many members of the press. Does this person not understand what the word "sovereign nation" means? Does he not understand that it is now up to the Iraqis to run their country in the manner that they deem fit, and that "we" don't need to "give" them the ability to do anything at all? This reporter seems unable to come to grips with the concept of FREEDOM, and of a free, sovereign Iraq.
And, wasn't he aware that they already have an interim Constitution in place that sets parameters on law enforcement actions and matters of security?
He seems completely unaware of extremely basic things that have been in the news for quite some time....an utter dunce, in my view.

Yes, I was struck by the denseness of the liberals. They claim we should not be there, then they want us to control how the Iraqis handle their own government. AND, the main thing, they are starting the same defense of terrorists and their feelings as they have done against the coalition.

I expect to see statements such as "Do you feel the Iraqi government is offending the rights of the terrorists to kill their citizens?" "What about the rights of the terrorists?" "Why does the Iraq government willfully seek to kill the insurgents? They have not declared war, how can they willfully go after insurgents".

Again, we just need to call the media what they are - obstructionists intent on controlling government power unless that power is a dictatorship.
