Slept through it in Kane County. Damn! Oh well, another 4.5 is bound to come along any day now. Right?

Matthew 24:7 "For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes."

There always have been and there always will be earthquakes. Let's not get apocalyptic over a mere 4.5 on the Richter scale.

But we don't have to stick our head in the sand and not at least look at Bible Prophecy....

But we don't have to stick our head in the sand and not at least look at Bible Prophecy.... If there is anything valuable I've learned in the last 30 years, it is, "Beware of anyone dabbling in Bible prophecy."

Look at the
map. There was an earthquake here in Philly?! WTF? A refinery in Marcus Hook burst a pipe or something?

Funny I have heard the opposite, that it is our responsibility to be aware of Biblical Prophecy, we are not to know the time or hour of Jesus's return but definetly to look for the signs....

First thing I did was shut off propane, oil tank, and in amazement; watch the geyser in my laundry room. My son was out on the lake few hundred yards and jumped from sheet to sheet of ice to get on the shore. I had batemens & doolittles spun completely upside down. Wife had just taken 2 apple pies out of the wood stove and I picked up chunks off the floor while it was still warm.
The aftershocks were intense first day or so. First few hours we had 5-6's every 10 minutes. First night, I set wood stove pipes back in place, on wood stove that was 6 foot across the room and heated the place for an hour or so. My kids slept out in truck. Wife and I took our sleeping bags out in steambath and tried to sleep. Rumbled from all directions and huge rockslides all night long. Anyway, I wouldn't want another 7.9 but we have so many 4-5's up here; don't even think much of them anymore. Couldn't even imagine the 10 they had in 64.
Everyone that has shakers on regular basis should keep water, flashlights, candles, camp stove, and think about being prepared. Probably more cabins burn down from woodstove during earthquake than from shaker itself.
Also, I never thought much about FEMA, but they really helped everyone out, getting their utilities back on. Another thing was how the people in my village reacted. Some took charge and had it on the ball. Others were basket cases and didn't even know who they were. Funny thing was it wasn't who I expected.

Of particular note in this case, assuming this quake was on the Sandwich Fault, is that this fault is in an orientation so as to be what is known as a conjugate sheer fracture versus the orientation of the New Madrid. It's is similar to what happens when you crush a column of rock, you get two sets of fractures, not quite perpendicular to each other. There is something called a Mohr diagram to depict all of this. Well, not to sound too obtuse, but why is this of particular note? (Everything you said kinda flew right over my head!)

Funny I have heard the opposite, that it is our responsibility to be aware of Biblical Prophecy.. It's fine to be aware of, it's the interpretation by the false prophets that I am wary of.

Moon is very bright tonite. I wonder if we can expect a big quake in a couple of days when it is full.
