Under reported fact. During the 8 years of Clinton, the gap between "rich" and "poor" grew. As opposed to the 8 years of Reagan where more families moved from the "poor" ot "middle class" than at any other time in history.

Examine the history of income strata related to tax policy since WW II and you will see that every time taxes have been reduced, employment and household income goes UP. And that the lower brackets grow at a more rapid rate than the higher ones -- thereby closing the income gap.
If the Democrats really wanted to "do something for the working people", they would learn the relationship between taxes and real income and practice accordingly. That they do not is proof that the liberals' real interest in tax policy is as a lever to gain political power...and keep it.
