I almost hate to admit this, given the implications, but...

Given that the hat is green and white, "S" probably respresents "Spartans," as in "Michigan State Unitversity Spartans" (my alma mater).

I do not know if MM attended MSU (in East Lansing, Michigan) but I do know he's from Flint, Michigan.

FWIW....

Hold your head high. MSU is a fine school. We had a fairly good number of excellent MSU
alums on faculty at my alma mater (Okla. State).

At least you haven't had a football player (our Dexter Manley) crying before
a Congressional panel while revealing that after 4 years of OSU, he
was a functional illiterate.

(I've always prayed that he wasn't literate BEFORE he arrived at OSU!)

As another real graduate of MSU, I wish he'd take off that hat. I'm embarrassed every time I see it. According to Michael Moore's biography on file in the Internet movie database, he "attended the University of Michigan-Flint in the 1970s." See: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0601619/bio

He's not even a college graduate.

I always said that there's not much worthwhile in Michigan east of East Lansing. (Especially Flint.)
