Interesting to hear about your contact with Hitch. What if anything does he ever say about Solzehnitsyn? I read his Gulag Archiapelago when it was first published in the late 1970's and it put me off communism and quick.

When I was in college back in the 1970's I took an independent study where I was supposed to read 7000 pages of 19th century Russian literature.
I read everything the library had and had to go to my professor to start reading 20th century Soviet Lit to finish. One of the books I read was "The Gulag Archipelago" and I think another book by him also.
Very eye opening stuff.

Our few discussions have centered on contemporary political and post-colonial issues. Lunch with Hitch and Solzehnitsyn together would be a treat.
