I was at a store counter today when a woman with a US Today pointed to the big F'911 cover article and said to the clerk "Did you see this yet?" He didn't answer. On duty, sales clerks learn quickly not to express any political opinion -- to the risk of losing business over it. He was a good clerk and sort of mumbled an indistinquishable response, "uh-mpf" not indicating one way or the other, but that she had been heard, and that as pretty much as far as she would hear from him on it.

Bold that I am in most quarters what allow it, I asked her if she had seen it. She said "Not yet, but I am going to see it."

I said, in a conspirator's tone of voice, "Yes. That's exactly what they want you to do. Of course you want to see it."

"I *do* want to see it!" she replied quickly, "The commericials really interested me in seeing it."

"Right. Yes, and that's what they designed them to do to people. To *make* them want to see the movie," I followed.

"But I liked "The Passion" and *they* were against that!" she argued. "They wouldn't ever give Mel Gibson and award, either!"

* * * * * * *

Well, I was taken aback by her reference to "The Passion" -- clearly in her view "The Passion" and "F'911" are cojunct in some way.

But what way? I am at a loss.
