Even when I first heard this story as a child, I wondered WHY is custer revered instead of simply ignored as an stupid arrogant fool who had all his troops killed.
His name should be erased from history except in the war colleges to teach what NOT to do.

Because during the Civil War it was GENERAL GEORGE ARMSTRONG CUSTER who made a name for himself possibly at the expense of his men, and he helped the North win that one.

Even when I first heard this story as a child, I wondered WHY is custer revered Because the defeat he suffered was so costly, complete, and apalling that it was politically "necessary" to transform him into a hero, lest the catastrophe blow back on his higher-ups in Washington.
