LONDON (Reuters) - Monica Lewinsky says she feels betrayed by Bill Clinton's failure to acknowledge how he destroyed her life in his newly released memoirs.
In an interview with British broadcaster ITV to be shown on Friday, the former White House intern best known for her affair with the 42nd U.S. president says she was disappointed at how their relationship is addressed.
"I really didn't expect him to talk in detail about the relationship," she said, according to a partial transcript of the interview provided by ITV.
"But what I was hoping, and did expect was for him to acknowledge and correct the inaccurate and false statements that he, his staff and the (Democratic National Committee) made about me when they were trying to protect the presidency," she said.
In response to Clinton's recent remark to U.S. news show "60 Minutes" that he had the affair "for the worst possible reason -- because I could," Lewinsky said she "was really upset" when she first heard it.
"I have spent the past several years working so hard to just move on, and to try and build a life for myself," said Lewinsky, 30, who has been a spokeswoman for diet company Jenny Craig and host of the reality TV show "Mr. Personality."
Lewinsky, who told her own account of the affair in the 1999 book "Monica's Story," said she reluctantly spoke out about Clinton's tome "My Life" because he tried to rewrite history.
"He says he was proud of the way that he defended the presidency, at my expense," she said.
"In the process he destroyed me, and that was the way he was going to have to do that, to get through impeachment," Lewinsky added. "I was a young girl and to hear him saying some of the things he was saying today -- it's a shame."
Lewinsky insists during the ITV interview that she had a relationship with Clinton even though he never uses the word in the book, instead opting for "inappropriate encounter" on page 773 of the 957-page autobiography.
"This is something that I never wanted to talk about publicly and I know he wished had never become public. But this was a mutual relationship, from the way it started all the way through," Lewinsky said.
Her affair with Clinton while he was in office and his subsequent denials of it led to his impeachment in December 1998 after a lengthy and expensive investigation by independent counsel Ken Starr.
ITV will broadcast excerpts of the interview during its lunchtime, evening and late-night news. There also will be a half-hour special, "Monica Lewinsky: My Side of the Story," at 2200 GMT on ITV1.
Lewinsky should be thankful. Mary Mahoney took a hail of bullets that were meant for her.
Wow.. this really looks good for the DNC and Clinton's legacy. The comparison to Reagan and then Bush in the minds if independents and moderate democrats could become interesting.
You are so right! The Clinton people had planted some stories in the news that Monica was very depressed, and some feared that she might take her own life. This was in preparation for the Clintons to Arkancide her. Unfortunately for them, the phone tapes were released and they had to back off. But Monica is so stupid, she never had enough sense to realize that Linda Tripp saved her life. That's why the press hated Linda Tripp.
Hey..whassamattah wif u?...don't knock the Monica...she's waaay smarter than say ..Paris Hilton..
Sheesh. Are they ANY adults around here any more? People who accept their own mistakes and own responsibilities?
Callipygian--maybe?
At least Monica was lucky to have a great dad who came to her rescue. Oh, he didn't? He was going after the prosecutor and not the pervert? Never mind.
Memo to Monica:
If you want your life back, quit talking on radio and making other public statements... you stupid, snivelling cow.
What did that little tart expect? Bubba has left many destroyed lives in his wake. I have no sympathy for her.......she should have known better!
Monica is 30 now?
Well, it seems like only yesterday she was a little tyke, crawling around the oval office floor.
Ya know, way back when the Lewinsky scandal first broke, I kinda felt sorry for her, believing her to be a naive girl that Clinton took adavantage of.
Well, 30 is a little old to continue playing the naive girl routine on the world's stage. Particularly to claim that he "destroyed her life"! She's as full of Me, me, me as he is and has gotten riches from his "destruction" of her that she would never have seen if the whole thing hadn't happened (which most Americans wish hadn't).
Monica, honey, take some advice. You're dumber than a bucket of hair and just need to keep your yap buttoned. Everytime you open your mouth, you prove once again what we already know about you.
No, you can't make this stuff up. It find it appalling that Monica's father was perfectly fine with his daughter servicing Bill under his desk, and I don't think he even changed his mind after it all became public and Bill was lying about his involvement with Monica, and the disrespectful way he spoke of her. I posted a few days ago that if he was any kind of man, he would have defended his daughter against that scoundral, possibly with a baseball bat, then he would have sat his daughter down for a very looooong discussion about proper behavior. Not to mention perhaps explaining to the poor delusion girl that Bill didn't actually LOVE her. You don't have to love someone to use that person.
She should do a real tell-all on every national tv show she can get booked on. That would be a great campaign commercial for the DNC.
monica --- you were a slut then, you are on now. Expect to be always seen as such.
If you want to change, you could do what felons do - go to the high schools and show what happens to people who have the morals of a slug - like you and clinton do. Maybe you can save the life of some children?
But, you probably don't care - peple like you and bill think of nobody or anything beyond your physical senses.
She is a disgrace, to use such a phrase as destroy, and life , There are young Men and Women defending her liberty , so she can make a complete disgrace of herself, poor thing, sounds like shes cut from the same cloth as Clinton, little wonder they got together. Somebody should give her a History lesson, on Life , other peoples.
You don't suppose that there's some form of STD conveyed via semen that causes vacuous egotism as its chief symptom?
...but she blew it.
"I have spent the past several years working so hard to just move on, and to try and build a life for myself," said Lewinsky,...
...but she blew it.
Pardon the pun.
