Bin Laden Family Evacuated

Bin Laden Family Evacuated Sept. 30, 2001

Two dozen members of Osama bin Laden's family were urgently evacuated from the United States in the first days following the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, according to the Saudi ambassador to Washington.

One of bin Laden's brothers frantically called the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Washington looking for protection, Prince Bandar bin Sultan told The New York Times. The brother was sent to a room in the Watergate Hotel and was told not to open the door.

Most of bin Laden's relatives were attending high school and college. The young members of the bin Laden family were driven or flown under FBI supervision to a secret place in Texas and then to Washington, The Times reported Sunday.

Many were terrified, fearing they would be lynched after hearing reports of violence against Muslims and Arab-Americans.

They left the country on a private charter plane when airports reopened three days after the attacks.

King Fahd, the ailing Saudi ruler, sent an urgent message to his embassy in Washington pointing out that there were "bin Laden children all over America" and ordered, "Take measures to protect the innocents," the ambassador said.

It's a tragedy," Prince Bandar told the Times. "The elders" of the students "came to see me, and one of them was a bright boy from Harvard who like the others had absolutely nothing to do with this and yet we had to tell him to go home and wait until the emotions calmed down. And he told me that he never really appreciated why the Japanese wanted a memorial or an apology for their treatment in World War II.

The student added, according to the prince, "I understand now that when you are innocent, in the face of emotion, nothing, not even common sense, can help argue your case."

Osama bin Laden is one of more than 50 children of a Yemeni-born migrant who made a vast fortune building roads and palaces in Saudi Arabia and his extended family spans the globe. Many have been educated in the United States and the family has donated millions of dollars to several American universities.

Bin Laden is estranged from his family and from Saudi Arabia, which revoked his citizenship in the early 1990s after he was caught smuggling weapons from Yemen.

But I can tell you based on my own study that the Bin Laden relatives that are a part of this flight out story have no known ties to terrorism or radical groups. They were questioned and determined to not have pertinent information about 9-11 or Al Qaeda. End of story.

That's a pretty thorough whitewash. I invited you to debunk the other poster's info on his brothers being big on Wahabbi "charity" fundraising that, in fact, supports terrorism. And this in the context of the killings of westerners in Saudi Arabia that sure look as if the killers have friends inside Saudi security agencies. Saudis are much less our friends than you would like us to believe.

Dennis Lormel, chief of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's financial crimes unit, told a congressional committee on Oct. 3. Some experts now say they doubt that such a scheme took place. What appears to be suspicious activity in some stocks may turn out to have been legitimate trading, they say.

So there would be no problem with him saying WHO ordered those options be bought? Funny how that name never made the papers.

I just went to your first linked article and that website really is a tinfoil seller's dream. I had heard that story about high-volume trading in United Airline stock, but I don't think I will rely on a site that promotes the impeachment of George W Bush as my source. LOL!

You know you're an extremist when facts are perceived as 'vomit.'

I'm opposed to lynching people.

Does that include Muslims?

And I invite you to provide the proof that they do support Wahabist causes. Sorry, I've never seen any such thing and cited you a source that indicates they're pro-Western. Please cite for me a credible source other than a Michael Moore movie. I know hating the Saudis is in vogue, and yes, pre-9-11 their unholy non-aggression pact with AL Qaeda was a major act of cynicism. But they've since reversed all that and in fact since 2003 have killed or captured more Al Qaeda suspects than any other nation on earth. What's your suggestion? That we throw them to the wolves so Al Qaeda is able to take over there? Will that be better than what we have now? Sorry, they may have done some rotten crap in the past, but just like Stalin once had an alliance with the Nazis, we had to forgive all that because they were a needed ally World War 2. Just the same, the Saudis are needed allies in World War 3, even if their judgment in the past has been lacking.

"Cynicism" is putting it mildly.

Many - probably most - Saudis support Osama bin Laden and his goals.

Why should anyone think bin Osama's family is especially pro-Western?

So because many Saudis support Bin Laden, I really doubt the idea that most do, means his family does? I would say the fact they have disowned and denounced him indicates they do not support him. And again, I cited a source that indicates they are pro-Western. I guess you can dismiss it, but it was from a book by Gerald Posner, a well-respected investigative journalist, and by the way a liberal.

My opinion is that any family that has had long standing financial ties to the Saudis should not be president of our country.

Last I checked, a family was not president of the United States, moron.

The bottom line is Moore presents actual footage. You decide how you feel afterwards.

Of course, Moore also excluded the other side of the story, and proves like no one else in recent times Orwell's maxim that omission is the most powerful form of lie.

Apparently he also understands the art of victimhood.

Exactly how many Saudis did we lynch?

I didn't think so...
