MODESTO False alarm near ex-Peterson home

MODESTO False alarm near ex-Peterson home

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When a group of children reported hearing screams and seeing a woman's body in a creek not far from the former home of Scott and Laci Peterson, police in Modesto geared up for the worst Tuesday night.

A short time later, authorities, using a helicopter and searchers on the ground, found what had prompted the scare -- a large beaver.

The false alarm came in around 8:30 p.m. with disturbing details. The children, at least one of whom was 11 years old, said a dark-haired woman's body, clothed in a ripped white shirt, was floating in Modesto's Dry Creek........

REDWOOD CITY - A string of prosecution witnesses testified Monday that Laci Peterson frequently complained of fatigue and had pledged to give up exercise walks in the weeks before her disappearance. Scott Peterson claims his wife planned to walk the couple's dog the morning he left for a solo fishing trip and returned to an empty home.........

Juror dismissed from panel

Juror dismissed from panel

By Jason Dearen

Snip it:

"Breaks in the case

The major break for detectives came in late December, when Amber Frey called the Modesto Police Department's tip line. "I was standing behind the clerk's desk; she was typing in a claim from someone claiming to be his girlfriend," Brocchini said.

Brocchini and another detective drove to Frey's house to check her story. Moments later they were at a Radio Shack, purchasing a recording device for her cell phone.

"I told her not to tell (Peterson) you are working with the police. Just let him keep talking to you ..." Brocchini said. Distaso asked how long it took for Frey to record a call.

"She recorded a conversation while we were there," he said.

The other break came while studying a photograph of Scott Peterson's boat two months after it was taken. For the firs time, Brocchini noticed a pair of pliers with a hair attached resting on the boat's bottom. The hair discovery "was kind of an exciting moment for us," said Brocchini. That hair has not been identified as Laci's, but has been excluded by DNA testing from belonging to Peterson.

At one point in the video, Brocchini tried to confuse Peterson but had the tactic backfire. Peterson said he made two calls to Laci from the marina that day, one at 2:17 p.m. and another on his way home around 4:30 p.m. "I have a couple of concerns. One is from the cell phone call at 12:17, you said 2:17 but the time stamp (on Peterson's cell phone) says 12:17," Brocchini says in an accusatory tone.

Peterson grabs the cell phone and checks the time stamp. After checking he tells Brocchini he mixed up the times. "You said it," Peterson said. With a slight pause to look at his notes, Brocchini admits, "Yeah, you're right."".....

LACI JUROR AXED

Juror No. 5 removed, motion for mistrial denied

Justin Falconer, previously known to the world as Juror No. 5 in the Scott Peterson murder trial, speaks with the media after he was kicked off the jury Wednesday.

Snip it:

"Falconer said he would not vote to convict Peterson of murdering his wife, Laci, an unborn son, Conner, from the testimony so far presented. Speaking to a media throng outside the courthouse, he declined to comment on whether other jurors felt similarly. "

Hey, that's a good thought! That fits in with the way it has always seemed to a lot of us that Scott was surprised at all the fuss, too!

I think Slimebag Geragos has just been waiting for Brocchini to testify. He knows he can do his tough-guy routine on a police detective, and it won't backfire, as it might, if he did that for a lay witness.

"Why did Scott not tell anyone Laci knew about the boat and had seen it in the warehouse?"

Yes--WHY???

As you, or someone on here said one time, he told people the boat was a "surprise". Well-- was it a "surprise"--or had Laci seen it???

Scott's really bad at getting his story straight about so many things.

Yes, it could have escalated, after beginning with the boat thing.

And something else has been bothering me. Yes, yes, yes, people often feel sick or heavy or swollen or incapacitated during pregnancy, BUT... I was older than Laci was during my pregnancies, and I never got to the point where I had to be wheeled around in a wheelchair--and especially not when I was only 5-6 months along! And I never got to the point where I had to be "helped to the car".

I can't help but wonder if this girl had some serious problems brewing, with her individual reaction to the pregnancy. Maybe she had blood pressure problems? Blood sugar problems? Maybe she was so much more sick than the average pregnant woman, that maybe something that wouldn't have ordinarily have killed her... killed her! And maybe Scott is to blame for getting her to that point. (Even if she was more than ordinarily sick, Scott has guilt written all over him.)

Yes, and if she didn't want to go use Scott's bathroom b/c of the fertilizer, why would she go in there to crawl around in a boat?

Didn't he tell Diane Sawyer that it was a surprise??

...and where did the suggestion that it was a gift for Ron come from?
I can't remember.

I've read two true crime books lately in which the murderer used Arsnic to kill their victims, and it doen't show up on autopsy normally. One of the symptoms besides severe stomach pains and diahrrea is problems walking.

It's a bit far fetched , I'll admit, but arsnic is available to farmers for rodent control, and Scott's customers were farmers.

I do not believe anyone ever saw Laci in the boat....I do believe someone may say they did....It doesn't track for her to climb in that boat in a fume filled warehouse in her stage of pregnancy in Dec.....

Scott said it was a surprise....It's no surprise if he showed her the boat...and he never said it was a present for her or for anyone but himself...

Now I read on a CTV thread it was a present for Ron..I have never seen that anywhere but on CTV forum...but that forum misstates facts all the time.. It could be a Jackie and Lee Peterson statement.

Hi, I'm back (again). Great to see you!

So, I'm neck-deep in all the stuff I haven't read, and I notice (from your Court TV postings) that: Scott called Amy BEFORE he ever called Sharon, and said where's Laci, and Amy said, "Could she be at her mom's?" and Scott said "No, she's not at her mom's", when SCOTT HADN'T EVEN TALKED TO SHARON YET SO HOW DID HE KNOW THAT??!

Okay, so it appears that Geragos is making this incident into something it's not. (Gee, what a surprise...)

The tenant said she had already been interviewed by law enforcement. Okay, already! Sounds to me like they were on the ball. And they didn't, like, tell the tenant something like, "We don't like what you're telling us, so we're just going to pretend this interview never happened, okay?" Sheesh!

Yes, maybe it was to Amber. Hard to believe that he was so eager that he couldn't even wait to get out of the shower, but then we know he was really hot for her!

I don't understand why the owner of this mystery number is not known. The prosecution has had subpoena power, and it seems they could subpoena the records of whose number this mystery number is.

I love the part about the meringue mention being at 9:48--18 minutes after our hero told everyone he had already left!

"She was at the warehouse Dec. 20th... saw the boat"

I thought the "witness" was going to say Laci was at the warehouse on Dec. 23rd??

$66,000... frankly, the way they lived, it sounds like they were just biding their time till that inheritance came in. And here she was, in the meantime, pawning jewelry so he could take Amber out.

And, regarding their excesses, IMO most of them had to do with Scott, not Laci. Yes, she apparently loved to buy fancy gourmet foods, and she went to the spa, but that's not much, compared to buying a boat and spending almost $25,000 on the country club membership, which was clearly done for Scott to be able to indulge his love of golf. And the pool... that's a joint thing, not just for Laci, but for Scott, too. Where were the fancy new vehicles and trips to exotic places and boats, etc., for Laci??

Well now, that's interesting. Thanks for the info on the alleged warehouse witness. Hmmm. Could she be a female version of ol' Justin Falconer? (a flaky nutcase)

Hilarious! On first dates, one now has to line up a nice hotel room for the obligatory first *! (See excerpts of Cheney-Leahy dialogue). They sound like "throwaway people" to me.

And if/when the warehouse witness gets her 15 minutes of cable, I hope someone asks her why she had to give her husband that power of attorney, and why it's still out there. (See RGS's post above.)
