When a group of children reported hearing screams and seeing a woman's body in a creek not far from the former home of Scott and Laci Peterson, police in Modesto geared up for the worst Tuesday night.
A short time later, authorities, using a helicopter and searchers on the ground, found what had prompted the scare -- a large beaver.
The false alarm came in around 8:30 p.m. with disturbing details. The children, at least one of whom was 11 years old, said a dark-haired woman's body, clothed in a ripped white shirt, was floating in Modesto's Dry Creek........

REDWOOD CITY - A string of prosecution witnesses testified Monday that Laci Peterson frequently complained of fatigue and had pledged to give up exercise walks in the weeks before her disappearance. Scott Peterson claims his wife planned to walk the couple's dog the morning he left for a solo fishing trip and returned to an empty home.........

Juror dismissed from panel
By Jason Dearen
Snip it:
"Breaks in the case
The major break for detectives came in late December, when Amber Frey called the Modesto Police Department's tip line. "I was standing behind the clerk's desk; she was typing in a claim from someone claiming to be his girlfriend," Brocchini said.
Brocchini and another detective drove to Frey's house to check her story. Moments later they were at a Radio Shack, purchasing a recording device for her cell phone.
"I told her not to tell (Peterson) you are working with the police. Just let him keep talking to you ..." Brocchini said. Distaso asked how long it took for Frey to record a call.
"She recorded a conversation while we were there," he said.
The other break came while studying a photograph of Scott Peterson's boat two months after it was taken. For the firs time, Brocchini noticed a pair of pliers with a hair attached resting on the boat's bottom. The hair discovery "was kind of an exciting moment for us," said Brocchini. That hair has not been identified as Laci's, but has been excluded by DNA testing from belonging to Peterson.
At one point in the video, Brocchini tried to confuse Peterson but had the tactic backfire. Peterson said he made two calls to Laci from the marina that day, one at 2:17 p.m. and another on his way home around 4:30 p.m. "I have a couple of concerns. One is from the cell phone call at 12:17, you said 2:17 but the time stamp (on Peterson's cell phone) says 12:17," Brocchini says in an accusatory tone.
Peterson grabs the cell phone and checks the time stamp. After checking he tells Brocchini he mixed up the times. "You said it," Peterson said. With a slight pause to look at his notes, Brocchini admits, "Yeah, you're right."".....

Juror No. 5 removed, motion for mistrial denied
Justin Falconer, previously known to the world as Juror No. 5 in the Scott Peterson murder trial, speaks with the media after he was kicked off the jury Wednesday.
JOHN GREEN/THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Snip it:
"Falconer said he would not vote to convict Peterson of murdering his wife, Laci, an unborn son, Conner, from the testimony so far presented. Speaking to a media throng outside the courthouse, he declined to comment on whether other jurors felt similarly. "

Something else you can blame the French for. Around 1828, French Canadians set up camp at French Camp (North west of Modesto about 20 miles) and proceeded to trap beavers until they were almost all gone.
>>The CNN reporter just noted that the juror downplayed his behavior. She had noticed the trial artist shooing him away after he wanted to see the "artwork" and he did speak to Geragos. Perhaps it was a greeting but it is not to be done.<<
Seems Juror #5 just wanted to be buddies with everyone. Maybe someone forgot to tell him that he was sitting on a jury in a capital case. If he had his way I bet he'd love to go out on Scott's boat , and then out for a few brewskies....
He feels sorry for Scott, he identifies...having to hear all these terrible things said about him. Guys say and do crazy things when they cheat....and he just couldn't think straight when answering questions, he was so distraught over Laci's missing , yet he is very stoic and unemotional...(like when he read love poems to Amber after his wife's disappearance.?)Sigh
If any of you have the time today please watch Catherine cryer's show on CTV. She seems to have inside info, and is letting it out a bit every day. Yesterday she read a poem that Scott wrote to Amber after Laci was missing-I guess I should say dead-.
Boy, Did Justin Falconer MILK his fifteen minutes, or what?!? Such a self-focused jerk.
I grew up three doors down from the Peterson house, and was in that "park" every day, riding bikes up and down "DareDevil Hill". It wasn't a park then, just a greenbelt next to a creek.
I will watch if at all possible, as I have the past week....I am slowly getting a mountain of laundry down to a hill after spending way too much time reading every forum, and link..
your right... juror 5 sounded like a democratic shill....
heehee...
glad he responded back.. But I understand that is what the person on the stand is to do, answer the questions asked and direct to the jury to hear.
oh yeah, and did you catch Gloria Allred's remarks on juror 5 stating pregnant women are crazy?....lol...
Just dam...
let alone to do havoc on the levees....
...KING: What are your impressions of Mark Geragos?
FALCONER: Mark Geragos is an excellent attorney. If I was in trouble, I'd definitely want him on my side. I think he's an excellent attorney, and I think that he's definitely worth everything that he's worth. He's worth it.
KING: This is supposed to be a long trial. What do you do for a living?
FALCONER: I was a security screener before. Now I'm out on disability, trying to get my knee fixed. (snip)

He made it past the jury questioning and made the final cut. Some people just don't come across tv very well. He seemed ok on Fox & Friends this AM.
Whatever happened on that other woman and son whose bodies were also dumped in the bay?
i think this guy, Justin, might have been watching CTV himself. He has all the legal court room lingo down pat. And he sounds like he knows what to expect in the court room. Being on disability he has plenty of time on his hands. The most interesting thing on TV midday is CTV.
I watched Justin on Greta, he is very immature. Every other word out of his mouth was "you know". What a flaky little twerp.
I agree. I saw him all day yesterday basking in the limelight. If the media would just cut him off for a day, then maybe he'll crack and tell us what the other jurors are thinking.
>>maybe he'll crack and tell us what the other jurors are thinking.<<
If he tells anybody that the jury has been discussing this case, then there will be a mistrial, and everything will have to start over. The jurors are not allowed to discuss the case until deliberations.
Reading between the "you know's" on Greta last night, it sounded as if the other jurors were not to thrilled with him.
