Presidential memoir breaks one-day sales record at Barnes & Noble, exceeds expectations at Borders.
NEW YORK (CNN) - Former President Bill Clinton is about to add the title of best-selling author to his resume as copies of his memoir move at record-setting levels.
The book, "My Life," sold more than 400,000 copies Tuesday, the first day it was available, according to Knopf Publishing Group, which published the hardcover edition.
Knopf, which originally shipped 1.5 million copies to stores, has ordered a second printing of 725,000 copies.
Recordings of Clinton reading an abridged, six-and-half hour version of the 957-page book sold 35,000 copies, nearly 10 times the typical audio bestseller, according to Knopf, a division of Random House, which produced the audio version. Bertelsmann AG is the parent company of both.
"This is a record-breaking number for a work of non-fiction," Knopf President Sonny Mehta said in a written statement.

Bwahahahaha!
With 1.1 million copies unsold, they're ordering 725,000 more? Oh, are they going to lose their -shirts-. I don't have any hard evidence, granted, but I think they are soon going to realize that the vast majority of people who would have -any- interest in reading more Slick Willie lies are so obsessed with him that they already -did- buy it.

AFTER....AFTER Drudge put up his account of book sales in major cities. I'm thinking it's to CNN's advantage to keep hyping the book so people will tune in to upcoming Clinton appearances on CNN.
The autographed copies are currently going as high as $400.
Are you gonna believe your lying eyes when CNN says something different?(sarcasm on bigtime)
Stained copies go for as high as $1,000 !
Maybe Manhattanites are buying like crazy, while real Americans aren't.
The Slimes reporters love this guy. He has been quoted as an average 'man on the street' so many times it isn't funny. It has become a running joke...and the slimes still doesn't get it. Jayson, you still there?
Unless these readers are just fans of great fiction...
Anyone who has the wherewithal to purchase the book as well as an actual desire to read it has, in the words of an old saying I often heard while growing up in South Carolina, "more money than brains".
I wonder about Hollywood sales numbers....
