WASHINGTON (AP) Michigan's senators collected two tickets to Disneyland and a crate of avocados Tuesday from California's senators, who had to pay up after the Detroit Pistons beat the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA finals.
California Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer also gave bottles of California wine, Mickey Mouse ears and six movie DVDs to fellow Democratic Sens. Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow. Among the DVDs was "Grosse Pointe Blank," which takes place in suburban Detroit.
"In this face-off between Tinseltown and Motown, it was clear from the start that hard work, great coaching and teamwork would triumph," Stabenow said. "I'm proud of what our team and Coach Larry Brown have accomplished."
Levin and Stabenow plan to donate their Disneyland tickets to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan.
The Michigan senators had promised cherry pies, Motown CDs, Vernors Ginger Ale and Michigan wine if the Lakers won the championship. But they were spared when the Pistons beat the Lakers 100-87 last Tuesday in the fifth game of the NBA championship series.
I thought gambling was illegal in both of those states...
Good point... the only two states where gambling on sporting events is legal are Nevada and Oregon.
Lock em up!
Only illegal for the peons, dontcha know!
I would have preferred that Fibstein and Boxer give up their jobs, rather than Disneyland tickets...though I will agree, both are Mickey Mouse operations.
