Germany and much of the rest of Europe had been building up and building up their militaries for decades. They were carving up Africa and skirmishing over their territories there. They had almost come to war a few years earlier but that was defused. It was only a matter of time. The Archduke's car had earlier had a grenade thrown at it before, yet no precautions were really taken. Only when the car was taken right to Princip, and he was 5 feet away, was the assassination successful. Austrian officials were ultimately behind making it happen. Frail, sickly, and unskilled 19-year-old Gavrilo Princip was just one of the actors in their murderous play.
Couln't agree more and isn't it suspicious that we Americans positioned our Pacific fleet so convieniently near Japan instead of the relative safety of the Great Lakes?
