A federal court awarded $88 million to an Iraqi who said he was tortured at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq under Saddam Hussein’s leadership.

Abdullah K. Alkhuzai, 33, of Pittsburgh’s Overbrook neighborhood, sued Saddam, his two sons, and eight other Iraqi leaders because, he said, he was starved, beaten, stabbed and shocked while at the Iraqi prison in 1991. In May, U.S. District Judge Thomas M. Hardiman granted a default judgment for Alkhuzai since none of the defendants responded to the suit.

“I feel really great, I feel the USA got my justice for me. I feel grateful to the USA government,” Alkhuzai said.

I hope the poor guy doesn't hold his breath waiting for his 88 Mill. There's not enough money in the world to pay all of Saadam's torture victims at that rate.

Now he should donate 87million of that to the war on terror. Yah right.... wishful thinking. But you would think he could make a generous contribution to the war effort.

I was just wondering - the "judgment" is nice and all, but - where's the money going to come from?

Probably from assets which were frozen by the US government several years ago.

Stupid, frivilous, and a total waste of the court's time.

Oh, well. I'm guessing none of the participants had anything better to do.

I AM THE WIFE OF ABDULLAH ALKHUZAI A VICTIM OF SADDAMS AND I HAVE READ ALL THE REPLYS IN REGARDS TO MY HUSBANDS STORY AND I WANTED A CHANCE TO RESPOND TO THE ONE GENTLEMANS COMMENT SAYING THAT THIS LAWSUIT WAS FRIVILOUS I BEG TO DIFFER ON THAT COMMENT!!! MY HUSBANDS LAWSUIT WAS THE TRUTH AND HE HAD THE EVIDENCE TO PROVE HIS TORTURE THE VIDEO HAS BEEN WIDELY USED AND BROADCASTED ON SEVERAL NEWS CHANNELS AROUND THE WORLD. HE SUFFERED TERRIBLY UNDER THIS TERRIBLE AND BRUTAL REGIME. NO ONE REALIZES OR KNOWS EXACTLY HOW MUCH MOST ONLY HEAR A SMALL PORTION OF WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM. THIS MAN LITERALLY CRAWLED ALMOST HALF BEATEN TO DEATH ON HIS ELBOWS TO FREEDOM AND WAS HELPED BY THE US MILITARY WHICH WHOM HE HAS THE UTMOST RESPECT FOR. HE LOST HIS 18 YEAR OLD BROTHER WHOM WAS SHOT AND RIDDLED WITH 31 BULLETS WHICH HIS PARENTS HAD TO PAY THE IRAQI REGIME FOR THEN THEY WERE NOT ALLOWED TO SHOW ANY SADNESS OR EVEN HAVE A FUNERAL . THEY WERE ONLY ALLOWED TO BURY HIS REMAINS AND THAT WAS IT. I COULD GO ON AND ON AS TO WHAT HE HAS BEEN THROUGH AND MANY WOULD STILL NOT UNDERSTAND BUT MY HUSBAND DESERVES THE JUSTICE THAT HE HAS BEEN GIVEN ALTHOUGH NOTHNG WILL EVER BRING BACK WHAT HE HAS LOST IN HIS LIFE I AM HAPPY THAT HE HAS WON. I WOULD HOPE THAT YOU WOULD BE ALSO. MY HUSBAND ONLY WANTS THE SAME FREEDOM THAT WE ALL SEEK IN OUR LIVES AND LOVES THIS GREAT COUNTRY!!!

My calling the lawsuit "frivolous" had NOTHING to do with whether he was telling the truth. I never doubted he was tortured.

Rather, it has EVERYTHING to do with how much chance there is that he ever see any of the $88 million. Did Holocaust survivors sue Hitler?

If I'm wrong, and he gets any of the money, I hope he and his wife have a wonderful time spending it.
