"The Bush administration calls the men "enemy combatants," similar to traditional prisoners of war but not subject to the guarantees of the Geneva Conventions against torture and other abuses."
They call them enemy combatants because that is what they are legally. They are not POWs, but they are treated as such.

Personally, I wouldn't take AP's word for jack.

"We think that pushing someone to the brink of suicide, particularly where the person comes from a culture with strong taboos against suicide,.......Islamic law prohibits suicide. You've got to be sh*tting me..?
To: Max Combined
Islamic law prohibits suicide.Well that's only if it's traditional suicide. Committing suicide while simulataneously killing Jews or Christians, is applauded. Now was if some loser terrorist tries to be a suicide bomber, but it goes off too early and he only kills himself.
Does he still qualify for martyrdom or will be condemned. I guess it depends whether you are rewarded for actually killing Jews or Christians OR just having the intent is good enough. Mmmm.... quite perplexing.

1. All these suicide attempts - none successful - why?
2. This is a resistance technique - you can't be interrogated or questioned while "recovering" from a suicide attempt
3. Again, muslims play on the good will of the west for their advantage - don't fall for it...

A bit off topic, but has anyone heard anything else on the Korean hostage in Iraq whose deadline passed yesterday?

It's the thought that counts.

Something like the Badder-Meinhof gangall killed themselves in prison? What ever is happening at Guantanamo it isn't a Country Club and you can be sure it is to gain the medias attention so all these humanities folks can weigh in while they do nothing about Mugabe, the Sudan and other places around the world where true atrocities are being committed.
These are military combatants , sane or insane who want to kill all Christians and Jews nothing wrong with that I suppose.....

This will just really really really really upset Amnesty International, the UN, Koffie, the International Red Cross, Daddy Berg, the Progressive Caucus, and the BBC.

Feed them a high pig fat diet. The thought of losing 72 virgins will be an incentive to live until they can cleanse themselves.

According to FNC this morning a negotiator in Jordan states he is still alive and that the execution has been delayed due to negotiations. I don't know what they are negotiating over. You either fall for blackmail or you don't.

Probably because they just threatened to hold their breaths, did, turned blue, passed out, bumped their heads.

It's possible that they're despondent over having failed their religion - or their religion having failed them.
And it could be that they're doing it as an act of jihadi, to empower America's Fifth Column, having learned how soft Western culture is to cries to abuse.

That's more than 40 percent of the 34 suicide attempts by 21 inmates since the prison was opened in January 2002.
Statistically, 2 is a 100% increase over 1. So what?
