June 21 (Bloomberg) -- Iran seized three British navy vessels that reportedly entered the country's territorial waters, Agence France-Presse said, citing Al-Alam, Iran's official Arabic- language satellite news channel.
Eight British sailors were arrested, AFP said.
The TV report said the arrests were made on the Shatt al- Arab waterway that flows into the Gulf and is the boundary between Iran and Iraq, AFP said.

Uh oh.
Calling all Harriers...
All I can say is I hope this isn't their way of saying "we've got nukes, so now we can act like North Korea". Failing that, these jokers need a serious b**** slapping.
Bush should remind Blair that now is not a good time to go all wobbly on him.
First the nuke news, now this. I think we are about to witness a few surgical strikes on Iran and I hope they get spanked hard. We're already in the nieghborhood why not give 'em a good swat or two?
What size ships were they that the Iranians could take British naval vessels? Anyone have any more info on this?
Well, that's pretty much it for the good ol' Royal Navy, then, eh?
Vessels or special forces "rubber" dinghies?
Most likely non-metallic vessels... little diplomatic flap..
They got 3 "vessels with a total of 8 crew between the lot what the Iranians captured was some watercraft along the "Boston whaler " category ie maybe 21ft long with inboard/outboard motors. As for the officer commanding the detatchment it is not gonna be pleasant for him back at the Admiralty.
Long thread from earlier this morning. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1157226/posts
We're not talking Battleships, there were 8 sailors captured in 3 boats. I sure as hell hope we (US/UK) keep our backbones. If we let them dick around for even a second, these kidnapping are just going to get worse and worse.
ouch!
Perfect timing for a renewal of the 'Reagan Doctrine' and increased Freedom of Navigation Operations. Mr. Blair and Mr. Bush can call it an international tribute to Sir Ronald and Lady Thatcher. I suggest 'Operation Iron Cowboy'.
If the Ayatollahs have any questions about how these work they should feel free to make a call to Col. Qaddafi, unless perhaps his son is available for direct consultation from his current posting in the 7th level of Hell.
The last thing the Iranians want is a flotilla of SBU patrolling the river. Those boys may talk funny but they are straight up hard-core come crunch time.
And do the Iranians really want the 'USS Ronald Reagan' sitting off their coast at 12 miles - 1 inch? The symbolism would not be lost on even their most ardent propgandist I am certain...
They had better treat our friends very very well.
Most likely non-metallic vessels... little diplomatic flap
Its like Iran is trying to provoke the British. Now why would little old Iran wanna do a thing like that?
