DOT, Delta Reach Settlement Regarding Discrimination Against Passengers
The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) today announced a consent order reflecting an agreement with Delta Air Lines regarding treatment of certain air travelers who are or were perceived to be of Arab, Middle Eastern or Southeast Asian descent and/or Muslim in the period following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
The order finds that Delta acted in a manner inconsistent with federal laws that prohibit discrimination and requires the carrier to provide civil rights training over the next two years to its pilots, flight attendants and passenger service agents at a total cost of no less than $900,000 in addition to that which Delta already provided since the Sept. 11 attacks. Delta is also ordered to cease and desist from future violations of federal anti-discrimination statutes. While Delta agreed to the settlement, the carrier denied violating the law.
United, American and Continental Airlines have reached similar settlements with the department.

Can we assume that Delta is a prime target for Islamists, now that the government has properly prohibited them from protecting their customers?

I suppose we could see something similar to Munich, however, in which the terrorists isolate a group of victims and let it play out on the world stage. The Israelis are always a fine target for that; most of the West still regards them as a nuisance. I fear the second best target would be American athletes.
I have been watching the security buildup in the city for over TWO YEARS. Cameras everywhere, MP3 armed police on every corner, rapid response teams at the ready for any contingency, and radiation detectors online now. Though their hospitals are the typical socialized medicine fiascos. I feel a bit more confident about going there for the Olympics.
I don't know. I would bet not due to the massive effort and expense but there is always the nutcases. The DOT doing boneheaded BS like this does not help. I wonder how many are clinton leftovers like the head of this department.
