Yes,and on the other thread someone responded to me regards this matter by explaining that in Latin American countries it is common to use the mother's name rather than the father's when addressing someone or referring to them. Since I am from a heavily Hispanic community and have several close acquaintances that are Mexican,I know that it occurs at times,in certain circumstances,but seldom in Church circles.

Has anyone heard of Cardinal Estevan,Cardinal Castrillon or Cardinal Lopez? We usuallly hear of them as Cardinal Neves,Cardinal Hoyos and Cardinal Trujillo.Occasionally,the entire hyphenated name is used,as in Castrillon-Hoyos/Lopez-Trujillo but generally the name prior to the hyphen is dropped,that would be the mother's name.

Continuing on with my conspiracy theory, "social justice" ideotheology trumps cleaning the Church of sexually abusing priests and their protector prelates.It is also the beginning of discerning and identifying the two factions in the "progressive" wing of the Church. This is all good news.
