Ahh, did ya' catch the Clash sympathy posts on NRO when Joe Strummer died? - refreshing to see there are lots of (relatively older) conservative closet punk fans.
I'm 'bout as conservative as they come, but I still listen to the Patti Smith Group and their ilk - (drives my wife nuts, though.....)

As someone who's pretty young, (23), and, although I've never clamed to be a 'punk' type, I've undoubtedly been to more 'punk' shows then the rest of this board combined, ...

LOL....I wouldn't lay that out there as a given as you have so self assuredly done.

More Freepers than you'd care to count could start rattling off stories from CB's and Max's circa `78....doubt they'd be at all impressed by your expansive expertise on the genre.

I count a few punk rockers, metal heads and even some Gothic types among my acquaintances. Some of them actually registered and intend to vote - and not one claims to want Hanoi John.

if they would only listen to facts and reason and not propaganda.

But that’s almost un-American!

I wish you guys & gals had been around in 1980 - it was mighty lonesome being involved in the punk scene as a conservative back then! Most subcultures talk a good game about nonconformity, but Lord help you if you don't conform to their nonconformity.

When some new people started showing up at my favorite watering hole I was actually surprised to find that Punk was still around. I first encountered it in the late ‘70’s.

Don't get me started about the Cramps at Irving Plaza in '78! Woo-hoo!!!

I caught Lux Interior's beer can when he threw it into the audience - still have it.

I'm 45. AFA you "undoubtedly been to more 'punk' shows then the rest of this board combined" this is so much Barbra Streisand.

I've been to many shows back when Punk was cutting edge. No 23-year-old can get up on his hind legs and say something like that and be believable. L-O-B-O-T-O-M-Y!

Unfortunately, Patti Smith is as left as they come.

Yeah, Patti Smith, like the vast majority of all entertainers, is extreme left.
Had a chance to see her in New Haven for a Ralph Nader benefit awhile back - I just couldn't stomach the Ralph Nader part..... (.....besides, Lenny Kaye wasn't with her).

Isn't it so *cute* when the youngins think they invented the wheel? :)

Highlight (if you can call it that) of my musical career was jamming with David Peel (!) onstage at CBGB. LOL!

actually, yeah it is! I would think that way too when I was a ripe old age of 23,though. But then I don't consider bands like Good Charlotte punk, either.

Guess that either makes me old, or it just draws a line. Who knows.

"Of course it is."

Your use of "of course" would be saying that mutual exclusivity a given and it's not. I've proven otherwise with my post. Thanks though for not really reading it, and just making assumations. :o)

Unless you've seen GG Allin live, sit down and shut up. :)

Excuse me, I have misspoken. It surprises me a little bit, I've never heard anybody on this board have anything to say about any music that wasn't christian, so I guess I assumed nobody around here knew anything about it. I stand corrected.

But GG Alan isn't punk. He's just psycho. I don't think you can really classify his music as anything.

Oh, and to that other person, Good Charlotte is about as 'punk' as Jason Timberlake with a mohawk.

Dogz, just a suggestion but if you're going to refer to people directly in a post, try to address them instead of "to that other person". That's just a bit disrespectful. Thanks.
