Lightning Strike Injures 19 People During Colorado Golf Tournament

KREMMLING, Colo. (AP) - Four men were struck by lightning and 15 others suffered minor injuries while playing golf atop a bluff in northwest Colorado, officials said. The lightning strike caught many people by surprise Saturday during a golf tournament set up on a makeshift course.
Participants, who ran to their cars during a storm, were returning to the bluff when the bolt hit, authorities said.
"All of a sudden it felt like someone hit me over the head with a baseball bat," said Kim Douglass, who was standing near the group of men.
Four of the men were flown to Denver-area hospitals with what authorities said were life-threatening injuries. Fifteen of those knocked down were treated for minor injuries and released, officials said.
The four men, whose names were not released, remained hospitalized Sunday, but the Grand County sheriff's office issued a statement saying they were doing well.
In May, a 47-year-old man was killed when lightning struck a driving range at a golf course in suburban Littleton.
They should get Retief Goosen to do a PSA commercial for lightning safety during golf, and play it on TV during major golf tournaments; for all the silly stuff the safety Nazis get fired up about (like .50 cal guns, kids playing in streets) the number of people hit by lightning during golf is pretty high.
Who let the Viking Kitties out?
Yeah, it usually comes as a shock.
LoL.
Like a bolt out of the blue?
Electrifying. Jolting. (chuckle)
