Monica flees NY, stung by Bill's cold words
The Irish Independent ^ | June 20, 2004 | ORLA HEALY in New York

Posted on 06/20/2004 2:58:38 AM PDT by aculeus

IN ONE of the smartest decisions of her life, Monica Lewinsky fled New York City on Wednesday night, hours after Bill Clinton confessed he trysted with her simply "because I could".

The former White House intern is said to be mortified and upset by Clinton's cold description of their affair.

The platoon of paparazzi outside her downtown apartment didn't help her mood.

Ironically, Lewinsky is expected to attend a wedding in Arkansas on Tuesday, the day Bill Clinton launches his mega-hyped White House memoir, My Life, in Manhattan.

Set to become the political bestseller of the year, the former President's book is expected to outsell wife Hillary's autobiography, Living History, which racked up sales of 600,000 copies in its first week last year. Slick Willie, nevertheless, isn't taking anything for granted. In order to justify his $12 million advance, Mr Clinton needs to sell at least 2m copies of the hardcover book.

In advance leaks from an interview to be broadcast on CBS tonight, Clinton gives the press the tantalising soundbites they want while at the same time giving the public their first glimpse at his deep sense of self-reproach over the Lewinsky affair. Both tactics are necessary to sell his $35 book.

In leaks made public on Friday, Clinton describes how the First Lady looked like she had been punched in the gut the morning he told her about his liaison with Lewinsky and how he spent the following two months sleeping on the couch. Mr Clinton reportedly also writes that he attributes problems during his upbringing as contributing to a self-destructive streak that tends to act up when he's tired, angry or feeling alone.

On Friday, the promotional juggernaut lost some of the sizzle it had built up during the week when AOL online released the first audio excerpt from the memories.

Those who tuned in expecting deep dish were treated to a folksy anecdote from Clinton about the "amazing moment" he shook President John F Kennedy's hand in 1963. "I'm sure he was aware that everyone would be looking for the racy bits, and he wants to come out of the gate first as a statesman-like figure," said Stan Baker, editor of Publisher's Weekly. Further AOL extracts, such as tomorrow's, entitled "Marriage remains", may draw higher ratings.

Since the post board on this on is going down hill, I can't resist putting in my 2 cents! GEEZ, I don't have a "cents" key on my keyboard! Never noticed that before.

Can you believe Monica had a birthday last week? Yeah, she turned 28 and it's seems like just yesterday she was crawling around the floor in the Oval Office.

I recall seeing her interview with Barbara Walters, and coming away with the feeling that she was emotionally closer to being a 13 year old than being an adult. It's not surprising she doesn't get it...and her parents set her up to be that way.

She also had a therapist who was an advocate for irresponsible promiscuous sex, even wrote a book about it, so Monica was pretty well screwed before she started.

He was only interested in conquest, and his self importance. Neither of which is lasting.

You know, he could have done something charitable in this book, like take completely responsibility for his actions and accept the full wrath of the country, but instead he chose to weasel out with some psychobabble, while trashing this girl once again.

If there's any doubt what an SOB it is, this book should confirm it; but the liberals -- the beacons of women's libe -- will sit back and be content to let him once again destroy this girl without saying one word about what a psychopath he is.

Did you read the AP story where Clinton claims in the book that the first thing he told President-elect GW Bush was that Osama Bin Laden was the biggest threat to America and that he claims GW ignored him and changed the subject?

Right. Clinton did NOTHING about Osama for the 8 years he was President, then all of a sudden he becomes his #1 concern when Bush take office.

This is laugable. What else can we expect from a certified liar?

"No one would ever call their arrangement an act of love. It was really a matter of male convenience and I have scant sympathy for any woman who sells herself to a man for so little."

Monica is the classic "young naive girl"(not a mature woman) who was raised in a shallow materialistic environment of southern California so she was ripe for the picking by Clinton and his trapping of power just like poor slain Chandra Levi was. These are babes in the woods among wolves like sacrificial lambs. I don't condone what these "girls" did but their naive impressionable gullability sure was taken advantage of by OLDER worldy males who KNEW BETTER! Could you imagine if helpless Chelsea Clinton was taken advantage of, hwo the Clintons would react. Double standards of the elite at the top of the food chain.

Woman is the operative word. She's was not a woman, she was a young girl and Clinton took advantage of that. The most powerful man in the world was giving her attention, and she mistook that for love as only a young girl could. It's a very old story. I do have empathy for her. This is precisely why we have the workplace sexual harrassment laws. Exactly for this reason. HE WAS THE PERSON IN POWER. To have this all dredged up again after all this time must be difficult for her. YES, I DO FEEL FOR HER. Flame me if you want. I don't care.

Do you understand what I am saying? I don't think I put it into words that describe what I am feeling.

He could have been nice to/about Monica, but wasn't.

Pretty fair assesment from our favourite Irish paper.

Pinging some who are also hip to Veronica Guerin's great paper.

But why would Monica feel she could flash her thong at BJ and have him return interest? Surely she wouldn't do it in front of Steve Forbes or Jack Welch.

It isn't like she was mainstream attractive - the only thing she had going for her was his fetishness about women who physically resembled his mother at a young age.

Welcome to the world of the sociopath, hon.

You're either a useful object, or a useless obstacle. Usually, after you're done being the first, you're just the second.

But then any Christian could have told you that. Don't expect morality of someone who would join you in immorality.

Dan

Where to begin?
It was insulting to America's collective intelligence, and probably why the media is turning on him. It's one thing to treat middle America and Conservatives like rubes, but it's quite another to expect the media to do the heavy lifting of spreading the lie like they did when he started his affair.
It's just so ridiculous, and I agree with you.
