And, just maybe, more than one state.

And maybe no states at all because both John Kerry's are from Taxachusetts so their electors couldn't vote for both of them.

He could have Bob Kerry as his vice-presidential candidate. Not only is a Vietnam Veteran, but a Congressional medal of honor winner, and his Purple Heart is for a legitmate war wound. He even has credibility with his leave no child behind policy in Vietnam.

Just what we need in the WH --- TWO guys who won't show up for work.

This idea might appeal to Tom DeLay...

Even before the 12th amendment, in the original text of the Constitution, electors were not allowed to vote for two candidates both from their own state. (They voted for two names, but did not designate one as President and one as Vice President until the 12th amendment.)

In 1792 Washington received 132 votes (every elector had him as one of his two choices); Jefferson received four votes, presumably from non-Virginians. In 1796 Jefferson got 68 votes and Washington 2, even though he wasn't a candidate for another term--presumably both votes were from non-Virginians.

In 1796 there were two Massachusetts candidates--John Adams (71 votes) and Samuel Adams (15 votes). Presumably no one from Massachusetts voted for both; since Samuel Adams was a Jeffersonian Republican, it's not likely that any non-Massachusetts elector voted for both Adamses either.

Yes, but would you want Kerry a heartbeat away from the Presidency?

Or we could have the John-John ticket (Kerry/Edwards). Two lightweights in the tradition of JFK Jr.

Kerry alone is JFK Jr. Lite. And it doesn't get much lite-r.

Running as your own vice president has this in common with homosexual marriage: The constitution doesn't forbid it because it never occurred to the founders that they needed to forbid it.
