BLAIR IGNORES THE ELECTORATE TO REACH DEAL ON CONSTITUTION
19-06-2004
Prime Minister Tony Blair has signed Britain up to an agreement reached at the summit in Brussels on a new EU Constitution. Late on Friday evening (18th June), Mr Blair took part in a press conference in which he freely admitted that he regretted his decision to give the people of Britain a referendum on the Constitution now that an historic agreement had been reached.
In agreeing the new European Constitution, Mr Blair has completely ignored the very large EU-sceptic vote in this country at the European Election. He once described his administration as the peoples Government. His actions in Brussels show that he no longer cares what the people think and that he is quite happy to hand the peoples Government over to Brussels.
Only when the final text of what has been agreed is available will the full extent of what the Prime Minister has given away in order to be part of this agreement be known. He has shown utter contempt for the democratic process. The British people must return an emphatic NO vote in that referendum to show Mr Blair just what they think of his European Empire building. UKIP and its 12 newly elected MEPs will be in the forefront of the campaign for a NO vote. It is they who now represent the people, not Mr Blair.

Even if the UK says no, will the EU order the UK to keep voting untill the "correct" result is achieved?

He better not - otherwise we'll be having Robert Kilroy-Silk as Prime Minister in short order...
Oh wait, go right ahead, Tony, do that... ;)

Don't think so. Much more likely that UK will have to leave the EU - what a pity for the Brits! /sarcasm
The EU leaders are playing with high stakes indeed.
Several other countries have already decided to hold referenda, and in other countries like Sweden, it is still probable that the politicians eventually will cave in.
In none of the countries is a YES a foregone conclusion. In some countries (most notably the UK) a NO is almost inevitable.
What happens then? Can the EU elites still go through with the project? Will the euro crash?
A probable result is that a core EU consisting of Germany, France, Belgium and Luxembourg would be formed. If that happens it is also likely that the Flemish will break away from the Walloons - finis Belgium.

With one of the smaller countries they probably would, they did so with Denmark over the Maastricht Treaty. With Britain it is a different matter, first we are too large to be pushed around; secondly, a no vote could well result in Blair resigning as P.M., his heir-presumptive is Gordon Brown who is a moderate Euro-sceptic; thirdly, the European hate us, and the fact that we do not really want to join them in their ludicrous federalist project, they may just take the opportunity to get us out of the E.U. (hurrah).

Ever since Blair annouced the referendum the top Eurocrats have been stating that if we vote no we will be pushed into 'associate membership' to which I can only reply 'is that a threat or a promise?'
Once we've been pushed out of the E.U., any chance of joining NAFTA? You guys look like far more fun than the Europeans.

Blair thinks he's getting a good deal. However, he will not bring the electorate with him on this one. The latest drubbing he got in the polls was a reminder that we're not going to go any further on European integration (meaning: subjugation)
I give credit to the man for doing what he thinks is right. However what he thinks in this instance is utterly wrong.

No offense to the PM, but how can he believe this is right for Britain?

The theory is that by co-operating with our "neighbours", and pooling sovereignty, we somehow open doors to trade and increase our political importance. No.

In a major sense, he does not want to stand up to the E.U. He is fully in support of the European 'project' (though we do not know how far he would like it to go), he was prevented from taking Britain into the Euro (rather, from trying to take Britain into the Euro) only by his slightly Euro-sceptical Chancellor Gordon Brown. If he could get away with it, he would have us far more integrated than at present.

Is Blair just an idiot or something?

NAFTA is a precursor to FTAA, which would eventually become the EU of the Western Hemisphere. There are few things I want more than out of NAFTA/WTO and 198% tariffs on all imports from China.
